Description:

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point...

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

Lots of great information in a small space, easy to find and walk to get to it. Maybe not good for small children.

Not only is this Lighthouse full of character, it also offers an awesome view to Mackinac Bridge spanning the Straits. In front of the complex you can enjoy the shallow and sandy beach. People all ages can go swimming there. In walking distance to Colonial Michilimackinac Historic Park. The park also offers public restrooms, which will close at 6 p.m.... More

Our kids love visiting lighthouses. This was a very nice one for us. The view is great. The staff was helpful. The house is well-preserved. I appreciate that they did not hide certain aspects of the keepers. I'll let you see for yourself what I mean.

This is a must do!! We loved that there was a guide in the lighthouse keeper's home to answer any questions we might have. Then we also had a guide take us up to the top of the lighthouse. I can't remember his name, but he is a self-proclaimed nerd of things about the lake, lighthouses, etc. And he sure... More

I thought the tour and visit were awsome. Had two young girls with me and they had a ball going up the tower and all the interactive stuff they offered. Highly recommend

You get to view a few rooms the way things were kept back when the lighthouse keeper and his family lived there. Great tour that provides history of the area and the lighthouse. Our teens enjoyed looking around. Great view of Mackinaw bridge from the park also.
