A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point...

A point in the storm and a guiding beacon since 1889, Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse helped passing ships navigate through the treacherous waters of the Straits of Mackinac. There's just as much to see from the top of the tower as inside the original buildings. Authentically restored quarters and exhibits, including the original lens and the Straits of Mackinac Shipwreck Museum, this "Castle of the Straits" is a true gem of the Great Lakes.

Light houses are one of the great things that make Michigan so wonderful. Mackinaw City has this great one for you and your family to visit and a walk on the beach shore is recommended.

Because it was October we were only able to see this from the outside only. The people that were there doing outside work we're friendly and said the bathrooms were open and we were welcome to walk around.

We were only able to walk around the outside of the lighthouse this time. They were already closed for the season. But it still was a great time, and we got some really good pictures of the lighthouse.

This is one of the best spot to photograph the mighty mac particularly during afternoon times and the sun will be in the front and that helps to avoid shadows. I setup my go pro to take the time lapse of the clouds moving over the bridge and it came out very well. This is kind of sand beach and... More

This requires an entrance fee and we did not take the tour due to limited time. You can walk the grounds and access the park where it is located. Great place to take photos of the bridge.

The location of this lighthouse is superb, right next to the Mackinac Bridge. The history sweeps you away. The story of the building itself is fascinating. You can go all the way to the tower. The lens is on display and that is a story in itself. Well maintained, good staff, and well kept grounds.

This is a beautifully restored lighthouse and out buildings. The small museum does a good job describing the reason for this lighthouse, with a special exhibit focusing on all of the shipwrecks in the area. It was also nice to be able to climb to the top of the lighthouse with a guide and hear the description of what it... More

With a brick exterior and a red metal roof, this lighthouse is photogenic. Unfortunately is not open to the public but the grounds are. There is a paved parking lot with restrooms and paved walks. A great view of Mackinac Bridge. The best part is that it is free!

My wife and I enjoy lighthouse hunting and viewing. Most all are interesting in their own way. This one is no exception. The history and artifacts at most lights are enough to take up half a day. This one is among the more interesting . If you like history and a peek into the past stop here.
