About
Have an Adventure. Witness the power of the creek harnessed to cut timber into lumber at one of the oldest industrial sites on the Upper Great Lakes. On the Adventure Tour, explore the treetops on the Forest Canopy Bridge, soar like an eagle on the 425′ Eagle’s Flight Zip Line, and experience the layers of the forest on the five-story Treetop Discovery Tower. Afterward, take time to explore the natural beauty of Mill Creek State Park, which has more than three miles of groomed hiking trails. This is Mackinac.

Perfect whole day out for the family!
Sep 2021
Grandparnts, teens, and a 10yo loved this place! Starting with the ticket purchase, the staff was friendly and knowlegable and helpful. We spent 10-15 minutes lookng through the museum -- which was useful as we could see real-world examples when we went to the talks. We started with the nature tour and zip line. We learned so much and the kids asked a lot of questions - the staff are all environmental/nature graduates and they know everything and show their love for it. The zip line was fun for all. The hand sawing demonstration was so good that then watching the water mill was absolutely fascinating.
The Animal pelts/bee/bones display was fantastic.
Walking all the way through the marked trails gave us a great appreciation for the beaver dams and woodland and animals.
We should have gone back for the movie halfway, but we sat up on the tower for a long time - just gorgeous!

Hello, Thank you very much for this AMAZING review of Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park - I'm not sure if we could write a description any better for the site. We'll be sure that this review gets shared with the entire staff out there, from guest services to our naturalist staff and park operations. We are always adding to our offerings out at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park, so we hope you are able to take another trip to Mackinaw City and visit us again. Thank you!

Get there before 5:00 p.m.
Jul 2021
The brochure said that they take the last tour of visitors at 5:00 p.m. We were running late after visiting Colonial Michilimackinac but arrived at 5 on the dot. We asked about being a part of the last tour and was informed that the last tour ENDED at 5:00 p.m. The gift shop would remain open until 5:30 and the gates were shut at 6:00 p.m. I told the lady in the gift shop that the brochure is confusing to say the least. That was the only day we would be able to visit but she wouldn't give me my money back (I had previously bought the tickets online).
Ah well....live and learn.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to review, and we apologize for your experience at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. We will certainly review the brochure to check on the wording of it. We will also make sure our staff is presenting all of the correct information. There is a walking tour of the site at 5:00 p.m., and the last Adventure Tour begins at 5:00 p.m., typically, as well. The last tour begins at 5:00 p.m. on the nose, though, as the site does close for the day at 6:00 p.m. Again, we apologize that your experience at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park wasn't what you expected, but we certainly hope you visit us again in the future. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to discuss further - mackinacparks@michigan.gov or 906-847-3328. Thank you, Dominick Miller Chief of Marketing Mackinac State Historic Parks

So fun!
Jun 2021 • Friends
I did the adventure tour with rope bridge and zip line. I love seeing the trees from up so high. Kyle gave plenty of interesting info on natural features and wildlife. Kevin helped set us all up safely and quickly with our gear. The nature trails were really pretty, moss and ferns and trees everywhere. The lookout tower is worth the climb- you can see the bridge and islands. The other guy who was giving info on the animal pelts etc was a natural storyteller and answered questions really well. I didn’t spend much time at the Mill area, but I bet it was probably great too. If I had known I could zip again for $3 I probably would have. Good day!!

Great time for everyone in the family
May 2021
We had a great time at this park when visiting in May. Kevin, the biologist who gave us the animal demonstration was fantastic. He was full of interesting facts on both the animal identification presentation and tidbits on bird calls and bird habitat. We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely come again. I've heard the hiking trails are wonderful and would like to try them out next time! Thanks!

Hiking trails

Great hiking trails. and presentations by the staff on animals and the mill. I have to call it a little pricy because not all of the attractions were open because of COVID yet the price appeared to be the same as if it was all open.

Thank you for taking the time to review, and we're glad you enjoyed your visit to Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. Unfortunately, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we were unable to operate the Adventure Tour this year. However, that is a separate ticket and admission from general admission. We were excited to still offer sawpit and sawmill demonstrations, guided nature hikes, and naturalist programs at Mill Creek, as well as have the three+ miles of hiking available. We hope you stop by and visit us again soon!

Wonderful park, beautiful day
Jul 2020
We had a great time at the Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park in Mackinaw City. This place is basically a recreation of a homestead/sawmill from late 1700/1800s. We enjoyed it so much we pretty much did everything twice. We watched the sawpit/sawmill demonstration and did the Beyond the Sawmill Walking tour...Caleb was the demonstrator and guide for both and was a wealth of knowledge!! He was able to answer any questions that he was asked. Mia assisted him on one of the sawing demos and she was great as well. We also spoke to her at the fur/pelt display and she was also quite knowledgeable. We were amazed at the construction of the dam and the recreation of the homestead which housed the archeological digs of the original fireplace. The trails were beautiful. So much in fact we walked it all the way around one way then walked it again backwards. We recommend this to anyone coming up this way. We purchased a Mainland combination pass that included the lighthouse, colonial michilimackinac fort and discovery park for $29 per person. Due to covid the Canopy Bridge or Zipline were shut down, but they looked like they would have been fun. Everyone was respectful and wore their masks when they were in the buildings and when there were large groups gathered together.

I came with my wife and kids and had a wonderful time. While many of the activities were closed due to COVID-19, the trails were still open and the saw mill demonstration still went on. The river is beautiful and tranquil.

Living Museum that is worth the entrance fee.

The state has done an excellent job of bringing life of the late 1800's to the present day. This is an operating mill with enthusiastic guides in period costume demonstrating the skills and techniques of the era. If you want to hake there are miles of trails. You can take a short hike to the top of the hill and ride the zip line back down across the pond to the operating mill. Great for all ages.
