About
Witness the power of the creek harnessed to cut timber into lumber at one of the oldest industrial sites on the Upper Great Lakes. Smell the sawdust as sawyers demonstrate the pit saw method of cutting lumber, then feel the power of the creek used to cut timber inside the reconstructed sawmill. Join trained naturalists for engaging programs showcasing the North Woods, and then take time to explore the natural beauty of Mill Creek State Park, which has more than three miles of groomed hiking trails. This is Mackinac.

This is kind of an overlooked attraction in Mackinac City. Located a few miles out of town on US 31 towards Cheboygan. Highlight is a reconstructed sawmill over picturesque Mill Creek.

Don’t miss the sawpit and sawmill demonstration, which usually runs every couple of hours. Really informative demonstration of a late 1700’s sawmill and how the first settlers of the area used to cut wood before the sawmill existed.

What is so great about the demonstration is they run the sawmill while you are inside and then you go and watch near the creek to see how it works from the outside.

If you have kids over four feet tall, they will enjoy the zip line, climbing wall, and canopy walk but this costs extra, even if you have the annual pass or combination ticket to visit the other Mackinac State Parks sites.

For younger kids there is a little play area that has a slide, fiberglass animals they can climb, and a little zip line. This area is included in the regular admission.

There are also several trails you can walk, which we didn’t do because it was kind of buggy the day we went.

Overall, we thought visiting here was better than the lighthouse and only exceeded by the forts.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review - we're glad you enjoyed your visit! While the Adventure Tour tends to be the thing that brings guests in, we're always so happy to hear that it was the sawpit and sawmill demonstrations that people enjoyed most. We hope you are able to visit us again soon!

The brochure said that they take the last tour of visitors at 5:00 p.m. We were running late after visiting Colonial Michilimackinac but arrived at 5 on the dot. We asked about being a part of the last tour and was informed that the last tour ENDED at 5:00 p.m. The gift shop would remain open until 5:30 and the gates were shut at 6:00 p.m. I told the lady in the gift shop that the brochure is confusing to say the least. That was the only day we would be able to visit but she wouldn't give me my money back (I had previously bought the tickets online).
Ah well....live and learn.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to review, and we apologize for your experience at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park. We will certainly review the brochure to check on the wording of it. We will also make sure our staff is presenting all of the correct information. There is a walking tour of the site at 5:00 p.m., and the last Adventure Tour begins at 5:00 p.m., typically, as well. The last tour begins at 5:00 p.m. on the nose, though, as the site does close for the day at 6:00 p.m. Again, we apologize that your experience at Historic Mill Creek Discovery Park wasn't what you expected, but we certainly hope you visit us again in the future. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like to discuss further - mackinacparks@michigan.gov or 906-847-3328. Thank you, Dominick Miller Chief of Marketing Mackinac State Historic Parks

Lots of things to see and do in the park. There are demonstrations, like the log mill, that are very well explained. Staff are very helpful and point out things we might have missed on our own, like all the different types of frogs at the water's edge. There was a table with different skins. The boys in our group went for the adventure package that included zip lining and a climbing wall, which were very fun. After the rest of our party left, my grown son and I were going to hike the extensive trails but the clouds of bugs made that impossible and we had to turn back.

We had a great time at this park when visiting in May. Kevin, the biologist who gave us the animal demonstration was fantastic. He was full of interesting facts on both the animal identification presentation and tidbits on bird calls and bird habitat. We really enjoyed our visit and would definitely come again. I've heard the hiking trails are wonderful and would like to try them out next time! Thanks!

This was an excellent experience. Would HIGHLY recommend it for couples and families of all ages. Family had opportunity to have fun as well as educational opportunity.

The staff was exceptional! From the time we entered the park to the demonstration and our Adventure Package.

I came with my wife and kids and had a wonderful time. While many of the activities were closed due to COVID-19, the trails were still open and the saw mill demonstration still went on. The river is beautiful and tranquil.

My wife and children had fun but they like outdoors and history. Zip line is very short and not worth it if you been on a good one before. Great for a 1st timer thou! Rock wall nothing special you fall off your done, even when attacked by hornet and no one else is waiting. Saw mill was the best part and Eagle nest platform on top of rock wall, stair access only but great view of island and bridge. Museum interesting but nothing special and closes early check time if arriving late. Hiking trails nicely groomed and no trash, a first for tourist type place. Americans Tourist can be such lazy slobs. Staff was wonderful!

This is one of Michigan's gems. Located a few minutes from Mackinaw City, Historic Mill Creek is the site of a colonial period saw mill. The park contains trails, a working saw mill, beaver dams and the Adventure Tour for a unique encounter with the nature of the park.

The Adventure Tour includes a canopy bridge through the treetops, a ride down the park's zip line and a climb on the rock wall in the forest, all for $7.

If you visit the Fort Michilimackinac and Fort Mackinac while in Mackinaw City, buy a combination ticket to add a visit to this unique park, watch the water powered saw mill demonstration and try the Adventure Tour.

My wife wanted to do a Zip Line for the first time and this was recommended. First the price is great $8 to enter plus $8 for adventure ticket. Which include Mountain climb(40 Ft), Harness walk across rope bridge and a zip line. $3 for extra zip line rides. There is a Saw Mill demo by Mr. Ed which was very interesting. Great place for kids and lots of trails to walk. Can walk to top of climbing tower and see Mackinaw island and the bridge.

We bought the additional package for the zipline, rockwall, and rope bridge. The guide gave us lots of info about the foliage and trees there. The zipline and rockwall were the best! We had a great time, and you could go more than once. The only downfall was my senior father couldn't get in just to take pictures, without paying full price.
