My husband and I tried fudge from three different shops on Mackinac Island. Ryba's was definitely the best tasting of the three. The choice in flavors is terrific and the fudge itself is delicious and so creamy. The other fudges we tried from other shops were very gritty and not very good. We made sure to buy even more of Ryba's fudge to bring home to family. My favorite is peanut butter.

My only complaint is that the fudge is a bit expensive and the employee we dealt with in one of Ryba's shops was not very friendly at all.

We made a trip to every fudge shop we found and Ryba's is the one we decided to buy from. The store's appearance is kept up and they had the most variety. The staff was friendly and helpful as well. We ended up taking 5 slices home. They had a deal and we ended up with more fudge than we could possibly eat for about $25. An excellent place to buy from!

Okay, granted, Ryba's is the only fudge shop that carries vegan fudge on the island so they're the best by default. BUT, it is so damn good. I'm not sure if it was just a trial run for vegan fudge or if they'll be marketing it more largely in the future, but it was delicious. It was at one of the three locations on the island and there was a small sign in the window that caught my eye. If you want the fudge you must ask for it as they do not keep it in the case with the rest of the fudge. They only had one flavor (Dutch Cocoa) but I'm a sucker for traditional chocolate fudge and it well exceeded my expectations. If you're allergic to dairy or eggs or just really love animals, this is the fudge for you. The list of ingredients is fairly short and all things that I recognized--no weird acids or gums. If you're a vegan or not, GET THIS FUDGE. Ryba's for fudge's sake. Market the hell out of this fudge. You win as the first fudge shop to carry vegan fudge. I regret not buying them out of their entire stock. (Pro Tip: I recommend refrigerating. Since there's no eggs or dairy to bind the ingredients, it's very prone to getting soft--unless you like that, then let it get all nice and mushy on your counter :)

I usually only write good reviews, but I’m sorry to have to write a one star review for Ryba’s. The staff was lovely, but the fudge was the worst I’ve ever tasted and I’ve been to 49 of the 50 states. All states have fudge at their tourist stores and I get fudge any time I go somewhere new. This is the ONLY fudge EVER that I couldn’t eat. I literally threw $25 in the trash because it was inedible. How did this place get voted best fudge In Michigan 5 years in a row? Was that something the store made up to sell fudge? Don’t waste your money. I understand people are still concerned about Covid, but if I could have tasted it first, I would not have purchased.

9/26/20 around noon.

Good fudge with good selection but the staff were rude and just very unfriendly.

I understand that we are near the end of the season and you’re ready to just leave the island for the winter but this is our first visit in years and we’re very excited to get some fudge.

Also it’s hard to hear you through your mask and the plexiglass partition. So rolling your eyes was not necessarily the customer service we are looking for.

There’s like 20 fudge shops on the island. Take your business somewhere more friendly.

I visited in late August 2007. Bought a variety pack of fudge(6 kinds, 1.5lbs) for about $25. When I get home and check my bank account online, I notice a $70 charge from Ryba's on my account. So I called in early September. They said they would pull the recipts and call me back......I heard nothing. So I call again in mid-September, same deal, I hear nothing. I decided to give them one more call in late September, they tell me they have no record of my transaction, so I dispute the charges via my bank.

So my bank credits my account $45 on my word that I spent $25. I figured this was all over, but no!!! In mid October I get a letter from my bank accompanied by TWO credit card recipts(with my "signature") from Ryba's, one for $70 and one for $80!!!???? One of which was CLEARLY fradulent, as the time on it was nearly 7pm.....I was almost home to Chicago by that time! Now my bank is telling me that they are going to take back the $45 they credited me.

The fudge is just as good as all the other ones anyhow. I won't be back, especially to the Ryba's 3 miles from my house in Chicago!

What a huge headache for a gift for my mother.

I was here with a school group and the workers were rude and acted like we were a bother instead of customers eager to spend our money on fudge. With all the places to choose from our group left and went to another fudge shop that wanted us there!

I stopped in to the Ryba's near the docks on my way to the ferry. I had quite a few gifts to buy and fudge seemed like a good idea. I went into the shop and asked to sample one I wasn't familiar with. I was told there were only 3 fudges for sampling and was grudgingly given a sample. I can understand not wanting to give away the store and had no problem with that at all. The fudge was excellent. Another older woman wearing high-end jewelry came in and also asked for a sample and the woman behind the counter was more than willing to give her samples to anything in the shop. I was dressed as nicely, but don't do the whole high-end thing when on vacation, but apparently wasn't the kind of riff-raff the saleslady wanted to serve. I went down the street to Murdick's, where they could not have been nicer and did my shopping there.

I stopped in and the counter girls were so rude. I stood there waiting for service as one just ignored me. Then she did give me samples and then just turned to someone else while I was there and started chit chatting. So after a few samples I left without making a purchase. The only reason it got 2 stars was because at least it was clean. I know the girls are probably sick of tourists, but they need to learn how to improve customer service.

No stop on Mackinac Island is complete without some fudge. We had the chocolate walnut - wish it had more walnuts. My husband had the peanut butter fudge. All was delicious.
