If you stop at the Wisconsin Vistor's Center in Mackinaw City, you can get a coupon for $1 off/pp for this attraction. The price for us was $11/pp. When you enter the facility, your first stop is the hatching and incubation room where you can see butterflies just coming out of their chrysalis and drying their wings. There are pictures of butterflies from all over the world.
The next room you go into is one large room where all the butterflies are. You can take pictures/videos but don't touch them. The room is warm in temperature for the butterflies, so be prepared for that. The landscaping in the room only enhances the butterfly experience. I say it's a large room but that is the whole butterfly exhibit.
After you leave the butterfly room, you go into a much smaller room where there are insect/reptile exhibits from scorpions, to beetles, bearded dragons, geckos, etc.
I would visit again.

We visited on a rainy overcast day which probably was why there wasn’t much movement in the greenhouse, but my wife was able to get some good pictures. We were just a little disappointed because we had only visited one butterfly house previously and the butterflies were much more active. I would recommend visiting when it is a nice day outside, there will be more action from the butterflies in the greenhouse. Still a cool place just don’t go when it is raining.

We were not expecting a lot, but it exceeded our expectations. There were beautiful butterflies everywhere and we learned so much about the butterflies, their life expectancy, where they come from, what they eat, etc. Nate was great at his job, he was very informative and knowledgeable about the butterflies.

Just ok.
Visited the island earlier this week with our family. We decided to check out the butterfly house as an additional site with the kids. My son and I had visited a butterfly house with his friends during his school trip and thought it was pretty cool. What we didn't realize is that there were 2 butterfly houses on the island. This one didn't look familiar when we arrived, but figured my memory was just failing me. We got inside and it was much smaller than the one we had previously visited. Admission price seemed pretty high for what it was, and the butterflies weren't active because they were all on their feeding trays while we were there. We didn't spend hardly any time there because the butterflies weren't flying around much or landing on us. They didn't offer us any kind of "sweet stick" to attract the butterflies, and we were asked not to put our fingers in front of them while feeding, but to wait same "let them land on you". I understand wanting to protect them from people touching their wings, but it made for a very uneventful viewing.
The other butterfly house on Mackinac island was much more exciting, entertaining, and was much larger. Plus their prices were much better. For my family of 5 it would've saved us around $12 over the "original butterfly house" prices

This butterfly house was much smaller compared to other places. Too many people were allowed into the small space at once. It was difficult to get through at times. With 3 children under the age of 5, it was difficult to find space to take a picture other than the two butterfly seats. Other butterfly houses have offered nectar flowers so that butterflies can land on them, providing up close views of the butterflies, but this butterfly house did not offer anything like that.

I don’t know if we were just there on a bad day or what. The manager Ruth needs to take sometime and decide if she wants to be in a tourist business. She is flat out rude to people. Please take a class in customer service before next season. It is honestly incredible that you she still has a job there. The price was a little high considering what was in there and their “educational room” is extremely out dated. The whole place needs to be upgraded. We will wait a couple years before spending $50 to be treated like that again for a mediocre exhibit.

This was really fun but we had a two year old with us so it was kind of stressful. Strollers are not allowed so you have to atch kid and make sure they are not accidently stepping on butterflies. It was amazing but if you have toddlers I would wait until they are a bit older. We went during Father's Day weekend so dads had free admission.

Beautiful butterflies, but we really loved the hedgehog and other creatures.

I thought it was nice and the cardboard brochure with different species was very informative. The only thing negative is no expert or educator to provide information to visitors. Not a single word was spoken by the guide in the butterfly room. We did have a butterfly land on family member and stayed on their arm the entire visit, it had to be whisked away by a brush provided by the guide, even then she offered no guidance or words. Kind of strange, I've never been to places without animal experts when the main event is the animals. Maybe all butterfly houses are like this? I don't know my very first visit to a butterfly house.

It's worth a visit if on the island.

Maybe one of the better tourist visits on Island. They offer a ticket that allows you to return multiple times during your stay on Mackinac Island, which is very unique. And we stayed 3 days and wanted to come back for one of their new butterfly releases they do daily at 10:30a and 4:30p
So many beautiful species and a very friendly staff. Off the beaten path of the Main Street chaos of the island. We loved out two visits

My husband and I were very disappointed. There is a single large room, attractive with all the flowers. We stayed approx 20 minutes to be sure we saw all the different varieties of butterflies – at most 6 varieties, and only one of which was present in somewhat large numbers. There is a display of mounted butterflies in the outer room before you pass into the butterfly room, and after the butterfly room there is another small room with a few tanks of insects (large cockroaches etc). Definitely not worth the admission price. I had seen and photographed some of the same varieties of butterflies while walking in the State Park the day before.

Thank you for your feedback. Our business, like many businesses and families have been affected by the Global Pandemic. Borders and airports are closed, making the importation of exotic insects extremely difficult, not to mention delayed shipping to postal issues. With live animals, this can be extremely dangerous and can often result in fatalities. As for our variety of butterflies, we did the best could under such unique circumstances. We had roughly 20-25 different species of butterflies, native throughout the US and over 800 butterflies free flying in the greenhouse. We know that this is a drastic change from our 'normal' butterfly house experience, which is why we discounted our admission prices. Insect world houses a wide variety of exotic insects including walking sticks, leaf insects, exotic beetles, scorpions, tarantulas, lizards and a turtle pond. All but two of our exhibits were filled, the animals in question were not brought up to the island because of a short season and not wanting to endanger their health by moving them. We know that this is a different year, we have done our very best to create and fun and positive experience for our guests.
