About
Be Inspired. Nowhere else does such a rare and exceptional collection of Mackinac-related art and photography come together to tell Mackinac’s story. In complement to the natural beauty of Mackinac Island, The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum allows visitors to experience fine and decorative arts inspired by Mackinac through the ages. One of the most diverse art museums in the region, the museum’s collection offers no shortage of beauty and history – from hand-beaded Native American garments and 17th and 18th-century maps of the Great Lakes, to one-of-a-kind pieces from the height of Mackinac Island’s Victorian era. Original photographs from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century present the beauty of Mackinac as captured by the camera’s eye. Featured are the works of William H. Gardiner, including dozens of his famed early-twentieth century hand-tinted views. This is Mackinac.

I came to this art museum as it was free after I purchased my Fort Mackinac ticket. I enjoyed many of the pictures and the paintings which depicted the vistas and the history of this island. It was also interesting to read about the lifestyles of the artists. This building consisted of three (3) levels and it was right next to Marquette Park and it was below Fort Mackinac.

Thank you for the excellent review! Admission to the museum is included with a Fort Mackinac ticket, and we're happy you were able to take advantage of this. We are always adding to the museum, and host a juried exhibition each year, so we hope you are able to visit us again soon!

We really enjoyed this relatively small museum. The exhibits are quite varied, showing everything from recent photographs to older Native American and other island artifacts and art. The Fort ticket gives you access to the museum which is wonderful. The museum is very manageable in about an hour or less depending on how quickly you move through it. The person who greeted us when we entered was quite friendly and helpful.

The art museum is a nice break and well worth a few minutes of your day. It’s right down below the Fort in the park and was included in our main fort ticket. There are nice Native American exhibits as well as new and old local art work. We were fortunate to see the collection from the recent local art show and there are some talented artist on the Island.

Thank you for visiting the Mackinac Art Museum! There is a juried art exhibition, that showcases local artists, each year - next year's theme is "Mackinac Journeys." Art and photography are some of the best ways to present Mackinac's rich history. We are thankful for your kind words and hope to see you for future visits!

We visited the art museum while on Mackinac Island. It is located in a small two story historic house at the east end of Main Street near Marquette Park. It had some nice art and artifacts to see and was a nice option, especially when Main Street is so busy. They had some interesting old maps of the Great Lakes in there, too. We spent about 45 minutes here.

Thank you for taking the time to review, and we're thrilled to hear you enjoyed your visit! The art museum is a definite change of pace from the business of downtown. We always feature a changing gallery on the second floor of the museum, so we hope you are able to visit us again next year!

The staff was great and very friendly and helpful. The museum itself was cool but the art wasn't particularly overwhelming. There were certainly some impressive pieces, though, and overall the museum was definitely worth checking out.

Some old and some new art work and photo's. We got admission as part of our Grand Hotel stay. We are not big art fans but enjoyed looking at the art. There are audio photo stations that give you history of the island. Past/today. We were glad we took the time to see.

We enjoyed the time we spent there as part of our fort admission. Probably would not have been pleased if we had paid admission. The best part was the old photographs of the island and the Native American items.

What a jewel of a place!!!

This art museum is a wonderful and efficient way to learn about Mackinac Island's history and its native people.

The museum is located on Main St. but down from the main shopping/dining/bar area. It sits right past Fort Mackinac (which is atop the hill) and grassy park area opposite the water, close to the Island Hotel.

The museum will take about an hour or 1.5 to peruse depending upon your pace and interest level. There are two floors. Admission is bundled with that of Fort Mackinac, which also offers an informative historical narrative.

Some of the displays offer audio narration which is helpful to those with vision problems.

Definitely check out the photograph collection on the second floor as these photos have been enhanced in a very cool way. While we were there, a juried collection of local artists was on exhibit. We later had a chance meeting with one of the artists at her store on Market Street. This was very cool as we got to ask her questions about her work and inspiration.
