About
Be Inspired. Nowhere else does such a rare and exceptional collection of Mackinac-related art and photography come together to tell Mackinac’s story. In complement to the natural beauty of Mackinac Island, The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum allows visitors to experience fine and decorative arts inspired by Mackinac through the ages. One of the most diverse art museums in the region, the museum’s collection offers no shortage of beauty and history – from hand-beaded Native American garments and 17th and 18th-century maps of the Great Lakes, to one-of-a-kind pieces from the height of Mackinac Island’s Victorian era. Original photographs from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century present the beauty of Mackinac as captured by the camera’s eye. Featured are the works of William H. Gardiner, including dozens of his famed early-twentieth century hand-tinted views. This is Mackinac.

I enjoyed looking at the paintings and pictures depicting different areas of the island. It was a quiet place to visit. Your Fort ticket gets you into this building.

A great Art Museum on the island

This summer I had the experience of visiting the art Museum & I also was invited to the celebration where they give cash awards to the 3 top artists, that event was at the downtown park in front of the fort right next door

Island Museum

We are not people who frequent museums but we enjoyed seeing the paintings at this museum. We were on the island for four days and it was a nice break from hiking and bicycling around the island.

This is a great local museum

We recently spent a long weekend on Mackinac. The Art Museum caught our interest, and we set aside some time in the morning to visit. There is a bike rack out front, so you can roll your bicycle up the side walk. There are some steps for the museum entry, however inside you can take an elevator to the second floor.

We thoroughly enjoyed viewing all of the exhibits, including the black and white photographs, the antique maps, and the original artwork specific to the island and area. Additionally, there was a juried showing of artwork for sale.

Afterward, we toured the surrounding peace garden. What a lovely gem of a museum for visitors and local residents alike.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to review, and we're thrilled to hear you enjoyed your visit to The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum! We thoroughly enjoy having an outlet to showcase our rare and exceptional collection of art and photography. The juried exhibition is a lot of fun for us to present every year, with the theme this year being "Visions of Mackinac." Be sure to stop by next year as we celebrate 125 years of Mackinac Island State Park with our juried exhibition next year. As a point of clarity, we do have an accessible entrance to the rear of the art museum, as a path winds to the east of the building and connects with a ramp, which is right next to the elevator. Thank you again for visiting, and we hope to see you again soon!

Interesting glimpse into the past

The museum was a mix of creativity and history. Displays of Chippewa clothing and design as well as photos from the island's past. There was art by local artists that had been in competition and even a kid's studio downstairs!

Loved the Photo Prints

It's a small museum, but if you are interested in art, history, or museums in general it is definitely worth a visit. I particularly enjoyed the enlarged historic photos of people enjoying the island in the early 1900s.

Nice Little Museum

The staff was great and very friendly and helpful. The museum itself was cool but the art wasn't particularly overwhelming. There were certainly some impressive pieces, though, and overall the museum was definitely worth checking out.

This used to be the Mission Schoolhouse for years and this year (2018) was our first visit to the Museum. It's a nice display of Mackinac Island art as seen through the eyes of various artists. It's a nice afternoon visit.

Enjoyable, not very big

We enjoyed the time we spent there as part of our fort admission. Probably would not have been pleased if we had paid admission. The best part was the old photographs of the island and the Native American items.
