About
Be Inspired. Nowhere else does such a rare and exceptional collection of Mackinac-related art and photography come together to tell Mackinac’s story. In complement to the natural beauty of Mackinac Island, The Richard and Jane Manoogian Mackinac Art Museum allows visitors to experience fine and decorative arts inspired by Mackinac through the ages. One of the most diverse art museums in the region, the museum’s collection offers no shortage of beauty and history – from hand-beaded Native American garments and 17th and 18th-century maps of the Great Lakes, to one-of-a-kind pieces from the height of Mackinac Island’s Victorian era. Original photographs from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century present the beauty of Mackinac as captured by the camera’s eye. Featured are the works of William H. Gardiner, including dozens of his famed early-twentieth century hand-tinted views. This is Mackinac.

I took advantage of the free entrance to this museum during the lilac festival! The museum is very, very nice! Beautiful art spanning local artists and historical art. Loved the maps depicting the variations on what the Great Lakes looked like. Art studio on the basement that had activities for children! Definitely with the stop!

We visited the art museum while on Mackinac Island. It is located in a small two story historic house at the east end of Main Street near Marquette Park. It had some nice art and artifacts to see and was a nice option, especially when Main Street is so busy. They had some interesting old maps of the Great Lakes in there, too. We spent about 45 minutes here.

Thank you for taking the time to review, and we're thrilled to hear you enjoyed your visit! The art museum is a definite change of pace from the business of downtown. We always feature a changing gallery on the second floor of the museum, so we hope you are able to visit us again next year!

The staff was great and very friendly and helpful. The museum itself was cool but the art wasn't particularly overwhelming. There were certainly some impressive pieces, though, and overall the museum was definitely worth checking out.

Some old and some new art work and photo's. We got admission as part of our Grand Hotel stay. We are not big art fans but enjoyed looking at the art. There are audio photo stations that give you history of the island. Past/today. We were glad we took the time to see.

We enjoyed the time we spent there as part of our fort admission. Probably would not have been pleased if we had paid admission. The best part was the old photographs of the island and the Native American items.

Visitors should not miss this small museum, it is truly a window to the past, I recommend the package ticket which includes Fort Mackinac, Biddle house, and a few others! Best Deal!

What a jewel of a place!!!

This art museum is a wonderful and efficient way to learn about Mackinac Island's history and its native people.

The museum is located on Main St. but down from the main shopping/dining/bar area. It sits right past Fort Mackinac (which is atop the hill) and grassy park area opposite the water, close to the Island Hotel.

The museum will take about an hour or 1.5 to peruse depending upon your pace and interest level. There are two floors. Admission is bundled with that of Fort Mackinac, which also offers an informative historical narrative.

Some of the displays offer audio narration which is helpful to those with vision problems.

Definitely check out the photograph collection on the second floor as these photos have been enhanced in a very cool way. While we were there, a juried collection of local artists was on exhibit. We later had a chance meeting with one of the artists at her store on Market Street. This was very cool as we got to ask her questions about her work and inspiration.

We dropped in at this museum because admission was included for Grand Hotel guests. I would estimate we spent approximately half an hour learning more about the island's history through the interactive video displays and browsing the artwork on the two floors. My favourite piece in the collection is a vintage travel poster for the island-- now on my eBay search list! The views of the harbour from the front steps are nice too. And don't miss Lady Liberty across the street!

But this one didn't do much for me. There were some historical exhibits and photographs, etc., but repetitive from what I saw at other places. The paintings were few and amateurish. Maybe I got spoiled from visiting the Indianapolis and Denver Art Museums, both of which are fantastic. This one was quite a letdown. In fact, it's absolutely not worth the charge of admission. We had it included with our ticket to the Fort and it was also free to us because we stayed at the Chippewa Hotel. Otherwise I would have felt ripped off. And, if you use your ticket from the Fort entry, be advised that, even though no one tells you and it's not printed anywhere, it is only good on the day you visit the fort. My wife just tried to get in today from her Fort ticket of two days ago and they told her she couldn't do that. She was only saved by her Chippewa room key. Pretty chintzy stuff for a second-rate attraction. By the way, I saw everything on offer and was there less than 30 minutes.
