Visiting this location was one of the top things I did on the island. Being able to watch the butterflies' flit around me was pure joy. I even had a couple land on me! I also helped a few climb onto my finger as to pick them up off the floor as to not get trampled. Butterflies vary in size from small to quite large. There is a chart you can use to figure out where they come from and what their names are. Not expensive to go in. Small gift shop is adjacent. I stayed over an hour but you could see it in less time if you chose to. I watched butterlies feed etc and so I took longer.

We spent a relaxing and inspiring 30 minutes here during our carriage tour. The staff seem to really care about the butterfly’s and they are truly inspiring to observe. There are so many different and uniquely beautiful insects that you could spend as much time as you wanted here

We brought our 3- and 7-year old with us and I think I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. It ended up being a cute little magical spot. It was cool finding all the different butterflies (and awesome giant moth) and really just neat seeing them all over the place. I was a little nervous we'd damage one so we kept a tight watch on our 3 year old, but it ended up being a great stop.

I was pretty disappointed in this Butterfly House. I had been here years ago and I don’t remember it being so lame. There were some cool places for the butterflies to land like the Ferris wheel and the castle, but overall there were not a lot of rare or unique butterflies here. In fact, there were hardly any butterflies in there at all. You really had to look to find them. This butterfly house is very, very small. I think it is only here because it’s something to visit on the Carriage tour. It’s path to get to it is a gravel winding path from the Carriage Museum and if you have trouble walking if may be difficult to walk down and back up to the top. The gift shop is very small too. I would not pay full price for this, but the cheap price with the carriage tour may be worth it.

We bought a carriage tour combo ticket because I figured this would be a nice diversion. Little did I know that this would be a highlight of our entire week in Michigan. We have a conservatory where I live that does a butterfly event, so I was expecting that, but this was butterfly overload - in a good way. They were everywhere and we had butterflies land on us many times. We were giggling, smiling, blushing, and just feeling great the entire time we were here. Surprising what a butterfly landing on you can do for your spirit!

We visited both Wings of Mackinac and The Butterfly House during one weekend in Mackinac, and we preferred the Butterfly House.

Wings of Mackinac was okay and it might have been great - if we hadn't gone to the Butterfly House first. Wings dulled in comparison to the Butterfly House. Wings of Mackinac just seems like a big-business rip-off of the Butterfly House (isn't it convenient that it's right on the carriage tour?).

The Butterfly House seemed to have more flowers and butterflies and also gave you a big reference card so you could pick out the different types of butterflies. If you're taking the carriage tour, save the extra few bucks you would spend on Wings of Mackinac and go to the Butterfly House instead.

We visited the Wings of Mackinac last summer. It was the best part of our day, very peaceful and relaxing, soft music playing and many different types of beautiful butterflies floating above your head. Both my kids loved it, especially when the butterflies landed in their hand.

When we switched carriages at the switching station, the driver said we should all go see the butterfly conservatory.

We walked down the sloping walkway to the building.

Upon our arrival, was $7/per person! Um, no thanks.

We went here and to the Original Butterfly House, and I liked this place better. Both are about the same size and feature many of the same types of butterflies. I felt like Wings might have had a few more species though. It was also cooler inside, and had glass windows looking outside instead of the plastic greenhouse walls at the Butterfly House, so it was more comfortable and more picturesque for just sitting and relaxing. We spent more time here than at the Butterfly House.
The gift shop also has a nicer variety of items. I think admission is roughly the same, but it works out to be cheaper ($6 per person) if you buy it in combination with a carriage tour ticket.

We had been to the original Butterfly House on the island many times over the years. This one is smaller and has no insects, but still beautiful with the plants and butterflies. The staff was helpful, although not so watchful of the butterflies and the way a few people were treating them. I still prefer the original Butterfly House, but this one was nice, less steamy inside than the other butterfly house, and prettier from the outside. It is also a long way to walk from downtown and is all uphill. If you go, plan to add to the cost and take a horse drawn taxi and walk back.
