The Biddle House was originally constructed in about 1780. It was purchased by the Biddle family in the 1831, although they had likely been renting the property since about 1822. Edward Biddle was from a prominent East Coast family and took up residence on the island after the War of 1812. He married Agatha de la Vigne, a local Odawa-French Canadian woman, and together raised their family in the log home. Biddle was an independent fur trader, businessman and held offices in the community. The Biddle House is restored to the 1830s and costumed interpreters demonstrate the domestic life of Mackinac’s fur trade era.

The Biddle house and blacksmith shop was probably the best part of the Fort Mackinac tour. Love that as part of the reenactments they have staff in period costumes sewing and cooking in the house and working blacksmith

We enjoyed the house but really enjoyed meeting and talking with the blacksmith. He took the time to explain the history of the location and the previous blacksmiths and talked about the artistry and craft he did. Really glad we met him. Fascinating.

Staff were in period dress and explained much of the history and workings of daily life. The house is mostly original structure and it was fun to visit along with the blacksmith shop on the same property.

The Biddle House was the most informative of the attractions included in the Fort ticket. There were costumed presenters: a young woman making bread, another young woman working in the small herb garden, and yet another young woman in the blacksmith shop! For a donation,...More

Amazing wall cut-out shows the building materials behind plexiglas. Great video and unique photos of the history and architecture of the Biddle House.

For those who have never seen a professional stable this is a must visit. It takes one back to the horse age. The stable is typical of something which must have been a necessity in the 18th century.

This is the oldest house on the island so it is important in the island's history. It was not open to the public when we walked by so we could not see inside.
