This breakwater is next to the beach. Great for watching sunsets, people, and the SS Badger. Bring your camera.

Easy 1/2 mile walk out on breakwater. Public parking along beach with concession stand and restroom at beginning of breakwater before you start your walk. Great view - especially if you time your climb with sunset or the SS Badger ferry's arrival or departure. Surprisingly nice gift shop.

I looked on line and it said it was open 10-5. Got there at 11 but no workers were there. Somebody else thought it was open. Found out from another lighthouse crew it is opening next weekend. You have to walk 1227 feet about mile to get to the lighthouse. If the water is rough and coming up on walkway they will close it down. I thought it was cool because it looked like a ship if you took the picture from where you walked up.

After hiking out and back to Big Sable, I found a parking spot (in the fishing lot) near the breakwater and had a cold ice tea. I took some pictures of the lighthouse and the pier lights and boat watched for about half an hour. The beach lot was full, so that's how I ended up in the boat trailer area (was off to the side so I wasn't bothering anyone).

2 Sept 21 - Headed over to the beach at Ludington at the North end of town. We had seen this beach from the ship on our previous crossings, but never took the time to stop and “smell the roses”. We found it a real treat this time, with us walking out onto the raised breakwater to the lighthouse at the end. Found the water extreeeeeeeeemly clear and the fishermen going out GREATELY outnumbered the volume we have seen going out of Two Rivers and Manitowoc.
The GREAT coast guard / nautical museum is an easy walk 2 block south.

Have walked out to this lighthouse many times starting in the 1960's, and never went inside and up to the top until this year. Don't miss it. Great views of the harbor too.

My friend and I were down at the beach for a Thursday Night Bonfire and Concert. We saw the path to the lighthouse and the lake was calm. We went, the walk is something like 2770 feet one way. Very easy! A fantastic experience! The views were amazing! Definitely something that I would do again!

My husband and I were in Livingston for one night on our travels around Lake Michigan. This is an unusual looking lighthouse that is well worth the visit. I can’t swim so it made me a bit nervous walking the concrete pier out into the lake, but I am really glad that I did it. We climbed to the top. It was a cloudy day so we couldn’t see very well but the guide at the top was very nice and informative.

Yeah! It was open for us to climb to the top! The tour guide was knowledgeable and interacted with the kids. The steps get very steep at the top!! You can see for miles and miles!!
