So worth the walk

This lighthouse was well worth the walk. It was about 1.8 miles to the LH. Remember to pack water and don't wear flipflops.

We took the walking path on the way to the lighthouse on the lighthouse trail that begins going through the campground. It was about 1.8 miles there with some shade, but mostly sun. Once we arrived, we decided to go back via the beach so we could enjoy the cool water. This walk was about 2 miles back. At a... More

A lovely sight and worth the hike to see. A true treasure in Michigan that my kids love to see when we visit.

This was the first lighthouse we've visited. We really enjoyed the lighthouse itself - it was interesting to hear about the lighthouse and to climb to the top. Since this lighthouse is over 100 feet tall, do know that anyone with a fear of heights or vertigo will be deeply affected by it. There's a nice walk around the top... More

While at the State Park, you need to hike out to the light house. It is an impressive structure of days gone by when big ships plowed through this area regularly.

This lighthouse is a long hike through sand and stone to get to but if you want a beautiful view, well worth it. Located in the State Park, you have to bike or walk to get there. There is alot of history along the way to read on in the way of plaques and once you get there, visit the... More

If you have young children it's a chore to carry them for the 30+ minute hike. Wait til a Saturday, I think they have a trolley. Also, children have to be 40+ inches to go up. Otherwise it was beautiful, and the volunteers we very friendly.

My kids LOVE walking out to the lighthouse and admiring the views of Lake Michigan. Be careful of the waves as they can make the path a little slick!

My daughter and I go on the walk to the Big Sable Lighthouse every year--it's about 1.5 miles each way and lot of that is along a sandy trail. There are benches here and there (not very often) and not much shade at all, so this is not an activity for anyone who needs to sit or has trouble walking.... More

To get to this you have to take a 2 mile hike. Definitely go via the beach. The trail is uninspired at best. The day was perfect and the lighthouse is beautiful. It was a wonderful visit.
