The Bass River State Recreation Area does not offer camping, has no pavilions or concession stands, and lacks even a paved parking lot. Instead, the property offers visitors one of the most natural environments one could hope for, with marked trails past ponds teeming with wild waterfowl, stands of brush filled with a variety of wild birds, and beautiful views past every turn.

The area can become somewhat marshy during spring floods or after major storms, but the well-drained soil in what were once commercial aggregate sources soon returns to normal.

There is a trail that starts from the parking area on the north side of the road. The trail is easy. It crosses the road, but I just walked back to the parking area. I enjoyed the walk in the woods. There is also boat access at the end of the road that boaters were using.
