I photograph one-room schoolhouses, my hubby loves trains, and we are both history buffs. So, visiting the Houghton County Historical Museum Complex was a “must see” for us. The complex includes the red-colored Trap Rock Valley School House (1914-1940), two red cabooses, log cabin, train depot, and a variety of antique equipment. Across the street is the First Congregational Church (1887) which is now used as the Historical Society Heritage Center. We arrived in Lake Linden later in the day but the grounds are open so we are able to walk around the complex. we really enjoyed our visit here.

HCHS Museum is the premier museum serving norhtern Houghton County. The site of the former Calumet and Hecla Lake Linden "works" and is located on the shores of Torch Lake. History buffs will enjoy this museum!

I especially liked the dentists office, it really showed you how much progress we have made in medicine since then. The train ride was pretty nifty too. They sure have crammed a lot of interesting history into this place, and you can tell that the people I who work here love their jobs. I highly recommend it, come early, it closes at 4PM

A history enthusiast's dream. This place is filled to the brim with historical artifacts. From the wedding gowns from different eras, the optometry equipment, the dollhouses downstairs...there is something eye-catching in every single nook and cranny. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly. A must see if you are at all curious about local history/copper mining/or just the early 1900s in general.

Three story museum and outside displays. Train rides on the weekend. A great collection representing the history of Houghton county and beyond. All three stories packed with items and very well labeled. Pretty location too.

The place is packed with three floors of artifacts of an area gone by. The museum is almost to the point of over whelming with historical and facts of a the past. It was a hot day when we visited, the 3rd floor was very warm so we did not spend a lot of time upstairs. I highly recommend it for the whole family. I would given it a 5 star but the grounds seem to be a little run down. Signs are missing and some displays are in ruin.
