About
Have you recently discovered a love for wine or been a connoisseur for years? Wherever you are in your journey with wine, Good Harbor Vineyards in Northern Michigan is here to help guide you with wine tastings at our vineyard. Since 1980, we have been growing grapes and producing award-winning wines on the Leelanau Peninsula. We have been family-owned and -operated since day one. With over 40 years of experience at our vineyard, our winemaking and viticulture team has refined the vineyard to grow the most extraordinary grapes possible to provide our guests with beautiful bottles and tasty glasses of wine. We have over 125 acres dedicated to growing Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Lemberger, and so much more. Our wine tasting room hosts a multitude of our favorite wines for sampling, and there is plenty of fun food to pair with each pour.

We stopped here on a whim while on a bike trip along M22 and had a lovely experience. The wines were both high quality and accessible, especially the whites, and the staff were pleasant and fun to chat with. I appreciate that this is a family owned and run winery that grows all their own grapes locally. Highly recommend the Pinot Grigio.

I read a review from about a year before our visit, and our experience was completely different. We had our dog with us, and as we walked up I saw a sign that said dogs weren't allowed on the patio. My wife went in to order drinks to consume on the nice picnic tables in a grassy area near the main entrance. She emerged with a flight of wines and a sweet white wine for me. No hassle at all about the glassware on the picnic table. We enjoyed the sun and our wines for awhile while our dog enjoyed lounging in the grass. We each went inside and bought multiple bottles of wine for our own enjoyment and for gifts. The attendants inside were more than helpful and very cordial. It was a very enjoyable experience.

Visited Good Harbor on a cold Monday and were able to do a wine tasting inside without a reservation. $8 for 5 samples. Denise was very fun to talk with and even gave us a card for a free tasting at Aurora Cellars, so that is where we went next.

Not treated well. The hostess stopped us at the door and said she'd bring menus out to us. I will say we had our dog with us, however we asked before trying to enter if they allowed dogs on their patio. They do not, however we were welcome to sit at the picnic tables off to the side in the grass. Ok, sounded good. Not sure why one of us could not enter to check out wines and order?? Anyway we stood outside and waited for our menus. They came and we learned we could not do a flight at the picnic tables, only have a glass. Ok, at this point we were still in. I ordered our wines while hubby went to the picnic tables. I get wallet out to pay and am told, we'll need to keep your credit card until you finish, "we've had people walk away with our glasses". I said I wasn't comfortable with that, can I have some to-go/plastic cups. "Sorry we don't have any". I said ok, and turned and walked out. I can't be trusted with their $5 wine glasses, but I am to trust them to hold my credit card for 30-ish minutes out of my view! And, yes I am fully aware many bars ask for your card for an open tab and I hate that too and am inclined to pay my bill as I go.

We went to a very friendly place down the street that trusted us with 4 logo wine glasses (a flight and a glass). No deposit, no hassle. Bonus, my dog sat with us on their porch, got a treat, and a bowl of water!

We recently did some wine tasting on the Leelanau Peninsula. This was our first stop. They do offer tasting (some places that usually do are not right now, so call ahead to make sure unless you want a glass or flight). The wine was pretty good, tasting experience good, cute little place for tasting. We ended up buying a bottle of Demi-sec sparkling wine.

Small tasting room with a modern twist. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly. Unfortunately, for us, they had sold out of some of their yummier sounding wines that we were hoping to try but we did find a house red that was suggested for guest as it appealed to a wide range of wine drinkers and paired well with pizza.

We have been staying at Jolli Lodge across the highway for more than 30 years when we vacation in this area, and we have followed the development of this winery for most of that time. This is one of the oldest and largest wineries in the county. They bottle a great variety of wines. I only like about 20% of the wines they produce, but that is because my taste is very focused on sweeter white wines and they produce a lot of wines in styles other than that. Their Fishtown White is a classic dry table wine, and their Trillium is a very good blend of three white wines in a sweeter style. Their oaked chardonnay was a classic, but the trend is away from oak and I just don't like chardonnay without the oak. I don't like the style of pinot grigio, but theirs is one of the very best I have ever had. Their late harvest riesling is their finest offering, in my humble opinion. It is always very good, and in some years it is spectacular. We buy it by the case. This year they honored a landmark event: the closing of Boskydel winery, which was one of the first wineries in the county. They made a one time bottling of a semi-sweet vignoles, using grapes grown on the Boskydel property, and honoring Bernie Rink, founder of Boskydel. This wine was magnificent, and we should have bought a full case. This will only happen once. Try this fine vignoles if it is still in stock when you are there.

This was our group's first visit here and it was wonderful. The wines we tasted were amazing and the service was excellent! We bought a few bottles to take home.

Along our wine tours, we stopped in at Good Harbor. They offer 6 pours for $5 and you get to keep the glass. The wines were good. Nothing outstanding. The red wines improved as you move down the sweetness scale.
