About
As Michigan's first Certified Sustainable vineyard, WaterFire wines express our unparalleled commitment to the Great Lakes. As the first Certified Sustainable Vineyard in the Midwest, we go to great lengths to protect the landscape around us, using no herbicides and low-risk pesticides, minimizing impacts to air and water, caring for our employees, and making some delicious and superior wines in the process. Our wines are fashioned in small batches from grapes we farm ourselves. We follow Certified Sustainable practices in the vineyard and exacting cellar standards to bring finessed and elegant flavors of the Torch Lake region directly to your table. We also have a vacation rental. Our Torch Lake Vineyard retreat sleeps two and has one bath, a mini fridge, and a microwave. It is attached to our tasting room, which it shares a deck with. Come stay the night and savor some wine with us!

A friend of mine suggested stopping by WaterFire sometime during my annual golf trek & trying the Gruner Veltliner. It turned out to be an excellent recommendation! Ellis did a great job of getting me started with the wine & cider tasting & Chantal & Michael were delightful!

I admit my bias because I live close, but WaterFire Vineyard is by far my favorite Michigan wine experience. Chantal (the owner) and Ellis couldn't be more engaging and gracious hosts. The views from the intimate tasting room are really special. When the weather permits, be sure to sit outside and enjoy nature with your wine experience.

We found this winery along the Frostbite Trail. This was our first visit and the staff immediately greeted us, even though the place was packed. We ordered a glass of wine and sat outside by the heated stove to enjoy our drinks. We really enjoyed our visit.

Absolutely fabulous experience- great wines, great setting and wonderful staff. We visited with friends that live in Elk Rapids and have been to all the vineyards in the area and this is their favorite

We stayed in their Airbnb. With the stay they gave us a free wine tasting! Loved the view, covered deck, and that they are pet-friendly with well socialized dogs as big as our Labrador Retriever! The dish soap was natural non-toxic and the homemade local bar soap was a nice touch! I’ve never been to an Airbnb before. This one was great! My husband and I had a bottle of their wine the first night and sat on the covered deck with the mosquito candle they provided watching the rain and it was very relaxing. We stayed Saturday through Tuesday. It was nice timing because the vineyard closed at 5pm Sunday and was closed Monday, which helped it seem more private. We walked down to Torch Lake at the end of the street. It was beautiful and maybe a 1/2-1 mile walk. The bed was very comfortable! We recommended this place to family and friends! Great place to stay if you are visiting Torch Lake!

My friend and I tasted wines here recently. The location is gorgeous and it was a beautiful day. We sat outside and watched a heron in the pond. The wines were all good and the tasting room manager shared lots of information with us about the sustainable practices and the current growing season. Cute tasting room and deck with good jazz wich added to the ambience. We were the only people at the vineyard on this Saturday afternoon, a mixed blessing, great for us but less so for WaterFire. It was so nice to do a tasting and not have a bus with a rowdy bachelorette party show up as seems to happen at most other vineyards. This was the most enjoyable tasting experience I've had. Wouldn't it be nice if this place remained a well kept secret?

My wife and I toured the Torch Lake area and sought out this winery. We enjoy supporting sustainable vineyard practices. They have a full time hostess who was terrific. We had a full tasting with charcuterie board. Ended up coming home with several bottles of their riesling. I believe their wine is produced in collaboration with Left Foot Charley's. Having a glass of it now... They have a B&B attached, as well.

Can people bring their teenagers along with them to the vineyard/tasting room? (Of course they can't taste the wine!)

LI’m sure. At worst, they may have to technically stay on the patio. Pick up some soft drinks for them on the way.
