We are glad you enjoyed your visit with us. The history of this prison has influenced the history of this state from the very beginning.
We did the Jackson Double...started at the old prison, then finish at the current prison, (Cell Block 7). Our guide, Jim, was so knowledgable, fun to listen to and interact with. You'll learn about the first prison in Michigan and how it came to be,...More

Thanks for taking our tour and the good review. We love doing these tours because we have as much fun as our guests.
The Jackson Double (both Michigan's first prison AND Cell Block 7) is awesome! Such a great, historical experience with Steve and Jim as knowledgeable, entertaining guides. As someone who has also explored Cell Block 7 independently, I very highly recommend their tours, the information and...More

I did what they called the Jacktown Double tour, which you get to see the original 1839 prison and block 7 of the 2nd "newer" prison. It was very informative. It should be noted you're not allowed to have cameras or phones with you on...More

Thanks for your feedback about our tour. We love what we do and are always looking for new and interesting stories. Your comments about good walking shoes are correct. I will add more rest stops into the tour.

There are two prisons to tour, the original 1st prison of Michigan and the second prison that the inmates of the first prison built. Cell Block 7 (2nd prison) is a museum in the current working Jackson Prison; the original prison is closed and is just a museum. I believe you can tour the museum for the $15 price or have the guided tour for the $30 price. I highly recommend the tour, the guide and the stories make it memorable. I'm not sure how much you'd get out of an unguided tour.
When I called to make our reservation, they pointed me to their Facebook page for a 10% coupon. I don't know if it's still there, but it's worth a look.
