About Stormy Kromer Factory Tour
Back in 1903, the Original Stormy Kromer Cap was built with quality fabric, carefully handcrafted in the U.S. It was authentic, rugged and durable - perfect for George "Stormy" Kromer, a hard-working railroad engineer. After repeatedly losing his cap on the windy locomotive, he asked his wife Ida to make him a new one, with a snug, pulldown earband to keep it in place. The popularity of that first cap launch a small and successful business. In 2001, the Jacquart family in Ironwood, Michigan, bought the company and brought Stormy Kromer to their thriving sewing factory - Jacquart Fabric Products. Today, we produce a full line of quality, rugged, American made outdoor apparel that is sold all over the world. We offer free tours of our factory every weekday at 1:30 pm - so you can see for yourself how Stormy Kromer caps are made, along with a variety of other products made in this industrial sewing facility. Our Factory Store and Museum is open Monday-Friday from 8:00-5:00 and Saturdays from 9:00-12:00.

The tours were not open when we were there due to covid, but that didn't stop us from taking photos with the big hat outside and going in to purchase a hat and a mask. It was fun to look through and try on their merchandise. Staff were very helpful. Just a note: I do not believe there are public bathrooms here, so plan accordingly.

This has long been on our list to visit with its ties to our home state of Wisconsin. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 tours were not being given. But we did get the chance to visit the factory outlet. It is a very neat and tidy store with lots to choose from, both brand new and outlet items. We were greeted warmly by the staff member and each found our own Stormy Kromer hat to take home with us. The store has well-posted and website policies due to COVID that do include mask requirements which we appreciated. We had a fantastic experience and look forward to returning when the factory tours restart. I am sure we will find other goodies to take home!

Desiree was our guide as we got to learn about the history of our favorite caps! Really neat to see each step of the process, but made me want to buy everything! It’s one of those tours that make you realize you get what you pay for. The quality and personal attention to each product makes me appreciate my Stormys so much more!!!
