About
Copper Peak is the largest artificial ski jump in the world, and the largest ski jump in North America. The 35 degree, 469 foot, cantilevered inrun was constructed using 300 tons of COR-TEN steel in 1969 at a cost of just over $1 million. Today, visitors can ride an 800-foot chairlift and a 18-story elevator to an observation deck, then walk 8 flights to the top of Copper Peak for one of the most stunning views in the Midwest. On a clear day, 3 states and Canada are visible from this amazing vista! Located on the Black River Scenic Byway and just minutes from Lake Superior and majestic waterfalls, Copper Peak is a must-see sight. Visitors in 2020 and beyond will also see renovations occurring at the site, as local supporters are working towards bringing world-class ski flying back to Copper Peak and the United States.

The chair lift was broken today, Oct. 7, but for a small discount we were permitted to drive to a service drive and up to the ski jump area. Once there you ride an elevator 8 stories to a viewing platform, where you can then climb 130 steps for an additional view near the top of the ski jump.
The view was pretty, albeit a bit hazy today, but I’m sure on a clear day the sights across Lake Superior would be outstanding.
It was extremely off-putting given the very concerning rise in COVID cases in WI, a very few miles away, and in general, that the elevator operator who you are captive with for an 8 story ride, pulls down his mandatory mask and yaks the whole way up and down. He was pleasant & informative but I was beside myself when we were done. Caveat Emptor. 😷🤒🤧☠️⚰️⛷

We came to this area to see this enormous ski jump. If you do not have a fear of heights you might want to take the ski lift to the elevator and check out the view. We didn't go up for the view but just seeing this is something else. People coming down from the ski jump said it is very impressive.
The chairs taking you to the elevator platform go up on a pretty steep incline; you overlook all the beauty on the hill it appears. This is simply amazing. The fall time would be outstanding for Michigan has such beautiful red maples, etc.

This was an amazing experience. I was brave and went to the very top. It was well worth the view of Lake Superior and the fall leaves of the Ironwood, MI area. I'd definitely go again, but be aware that it is not for the faint of heart. You are very high in the air, and the structure sways a bit in the wind.

WOW is all I can say about this place, from the views at the top to the walk down the ramp, breath taking.
I would of given it 5 stars BUT the chairlift was not working that day and a gentleman and his son offered us a ride to the top, as we were on our Harley.
Please advise staff not to recommend bikers can ride up to the top unless they are on a dual purpose bike, its steep, rocky and rutted.

Our daughter recommended visiting Copper Peak Ski Jump after they as a family saw it last year. She was absolutely correct, don’t miss it. The view was spectacular, besides your cameras bring a set of binoculars. Well worth the visit and no, ski jumping is not my forte…

Had a very fun and exciting time here today. Getting to Ironwood can take a long time; it’s not close to anything! But once you are there, Copper Peak is very fun, scenic, and thrilling. I highly recommend this for people with a sense of adventure, but it is not suitable for people who are afraid of heights, little kids, or folks with mobility problems.

This place is like a hidden gem. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend this place. The view from up there is stunning!
At first you go on chairlift, which is a bit 70ish decade. But it works fine, (hence me writing the review.). Then, you have two options - walk up the stairs , or go by elevator. My kids went by foot and described it as thrilling and exciting and I did the elvator, which was 70ish decade as well.
The kids loved it and everyone was clapping and cheering as we went back down all through the stairs!
My kids are 16, 14, 10, and 6 and they all did it!

Stopped off to see this site after reading about it in a recent article. The weather want great with some early Fall snow, but it was still a memorable experience. The chairlift to the top is slow, and you actually get much better views coming down. We paid for the ticket up in the elevator to the viewing platform in the structure. It was too slippery to walk up the stairs along the ramp, but still very cool. The structure is 50 years old and looks very well-maintained. There haven't been any competitions here since 1994, but a local group is fundraising to convert it to summer use. This is a must-see site if you're anywhere near here.

The day was overcast but we went anyway. All I was hoping for was no rain, and we were blessed with no rain. When I saw how the lift to the top of the ski jump hill was practically straight up, I nearly freaked but went on the trip anyway. I was a bit scared. The walk to the elevator was short, I do walk with a cane but I took it slow as your either walking on grass that was uneven or a dirt with small stone, path. The elevator ride was smooth to get to the initial viewing platform. There are small wooden steps then metal grated steps if you want to climb to the top, which we did. Much windier all the way at the top. I wasn’t going to take the additional steps up to the tippy top but figured I was there and probably wouldn’t forgive myself if I didn’t try. I’m glad I did. I really loved the trip. It wasn’t crowded; maybe due to the weather forecast. I don’t know but it was great. It would have been amazing if the sun came out but that isn’t Copper Peak’s fault.

Have been here twice before over the past 50 years and good experience. This year brought the now adult daughter and two grandchildren. Did not go farther then the gift shop…fog was too dense and would not have seen anything. Will try another year.

Is this doable with littles kids - traveling solo with 5 kids ages 3-12? I've watched some of the videos online but can't tell if there is a risk of falling out of the ski lifts from those videos. Is there a way to slow down the lift to get on and off as well? Thanks.
