You do not need to be a geologist to fall in love with this museum. My wife, not normally a rock or museum girl, fell ga-ga in love with this place. It is world class. The displays are fantastic with an emphasis on minerals of the Great Lakes region but with items from all over the world. We spent two hours inside and I came back for another hour on the second day. Such natural beauty. Great descriptions of what you are seeing for novices or scientists. This museum can be enjoyed by children if they are well-behaved and adults. You will come away impressed. Nice gift shop too to buy something that is part of the region.

This was the best mineral museum I've been to. There was so much to see here. It does focus on the minerals in Michigan, but there was so much variety here. The signage was pretty good - they had some interesting diagrams and information available on the walls. The fluorescent minerals room had a great display. Make sure you wait until the end of the presentation before leaving. There's an outside portion as well that's fun to walk through and the huge piece of copper outside is amazing.
The gift shop is very cute with lots of raw specimens as well as fun things for the kids. The employees we interacted with were friendly.
We spent about 2 hours here, although I could have spent all day without the kids. My youngest did get a little bored towards the end.

I was here last year and loved this little museum that takes far longer to enjoy than you would expect! I brought my family and we all spent 1 1/2 hours here, completely amazed by each display. We were astonished to learn that many of these incredible rocks, minerals are found as seen in the display cast, only slightly cleaned up...not everything is super polished for display, it comes that way! The array of colors, shapes and history was amazing! Even though I'd been before, this second visit was even better than the first! Very nice and helpful staff, clean bathrooms and an extensive gift shop! Lots of parking; be sure to visit the lovely little garden. No food or café. Discounts for seniors. Highly recommended!

I've visited Seaman Mineral Museum several times, and every time I see new things and new displays; really amazing things, especially the Copper Country rocks and minerals. The Fluorescent mineral display is world class. Don't miss this Museum.

This is really an exceptional collection to visit for anyone even remotely interested in minerals, crystals, earth history, or even just exquisitely colorful objets d'art. Utterly professional, sensibly arranged, well lit, clearly labeled. The Smithsonian or Field Museum do it no better! A well stocked gift shop with truly unique offerings.

I am not a rock and mineral person, although my daughter certainly is. We both thoroughly enjoyed this museum, which is on the Michigan Tech campus. It is extremely well curated, allowing a novice like me to gain useful insights. My daughter was simply mesmerized.

One tip: Be sure to check out the outdoor exhibits and garden.

This museum holds an amazing amount of incredible minerals. Very impressive displays that are well-organized and labeled. Good explanations of the science. Beautiful minerals from all over the world. Amazing quantity. Really nice first store with a lot of selection and interesting items. This is a must-see if you're in the area.

More training for being tactful.
The staff was so rude we didnt even take the tour of the mueseum. The gift shop is well stocked. But the girls working there that day were very rude. They missed out on 8 paid admissions. Oh and they were talking amongst themselves like customers were an Inconvenience.

We really wanted to visit the museum and were so pleased that it was open during the pandemic. What a great place to learn more about geology and the multitude of minerals, rocks and history of the area. As a bonus the collection highlights specimens from around the globe. We really focused on the Keweenaw, UP and Michigan portions. Loved the 19,000 lb float copper on display in the garden. Also took a quick walk through and appreciated the labeling of rocks in a garden setting too. Also appreciated the extra steps the staff took to keep patrons safe.

Very well done display of minerals & gems. From the introduction to how minerals were formed to the display of how we use them today, this museum has done a great job of presenting the science of minerals.
