Windmill Island Gardens is home to de Zwaan windmill, the last mill allowed to be transported from the Netherlands. de Zwaan still functions by grinding locally-grown grain into flour that is sold to visitors and local businesses. A highlight of visiting is a tour of this historic working windmill. Visitors can enjoy music from our antique Dutch street organ given to the City of Holland by the City of Amsterdam after World War II. Children can also ride on our antique carousel from the Netherlands. There are several other replica Dutch buildings and shops. The Island is home to beautiful gardens which feature tulips in the spring followed by beautiful annuals and perennials throughout the summer. Please note that the Island is open seasonally, April 16 - October 2, 2016. Last tickets sold at 5 pm.

Standing on a low lying island at the head of Lake Macatawa, just a short walk from downtown Holland, Michigan you will find the Zwan, a fully functioning Dutch windmill that still grinds graham flour and cornmeal between wind driven millstones under the control of the only certified miller, who is a member of a Dutch miller's guild. The Island... More

If you can't make the trip across the pond to The Netherlands, then make the trip to Holland's very own Windmills Island. It will be worth the trip and plan on spending the afternoon!

We weren't even there for tulip season but we still really enjoyed out visit here. The highlight of the place was the DeZwaan Windmill. Be sure to take the free tour! It was interesting to learn about the history of the windmill & how it got the US and also about how it is still used today to make flour.... More

Windmill Island Gardens is a breathtaking stop on your journey through Michigan. Step back in time as you explore the historic windmill and wander through colorful and gorgeous garden paths. Guides dresses in colorful costumes give the history of the mill and its significance in Michigan. The Miller is often on site to discuss the milling process.

The gardens are amazing! Tulips in the spring and gorgeous flowers in summer. It became an arboretum a few years ago so it's really become a sight to behold. They have banquet facilities in a huge white tent where you can see the 250+ year old windmill through the open ends or Windows depending on weather. Tour the windmill while... More

This was really hard to get in to with all the one way streets, but well worth it. We like to walk around and they allow you to park and go into the gardens free of charge in the off season. That is one huge windmill! It was neat seeing the bullet holes from the war, when the windmill was... More

We had such a nice time walking around the gardens and buildings. Looks like countryside of the Netherlands. The bridges and windmill and I am sure in the summer it has a lot of fun things to do for families. We were there when it closed for the season. Well kept place. Would be beautiful for a wedding.

I was visiting western Michigan and read about Holland and in particular Windmill Island. I was intrigued and decided to stop and was glad I did. The employees were very friendly and informative. One previous reviewer thought that the $9 admission price was too much but I disagree. The grounds are pretty and the tour of the windmill was very... More
