About
WELCOME TO THE TAMARACKS! The Hawkins Family opened the original 9 hole golf course in May 1981 with Stephen Hawkins as architect. As we begin our 40th season The Tamaracks is still owned and maintained by both The Hawkins and Ashcrafts families. The 1991 expansion to 18 holes brought with it more woods and water. The par 71, 18 hole layout measures just under 6,000 yards, but with trees lining every fairway and water on half of the holes, it does not play that easy! A true shot makers course, every tee shot is important to the score on the card, however errant shots can be rescued from the park like condition of the areas beyond the fairways. The greens range from small to large and reflect the difficulty of each hole. Always in great shape, The Tamaracks gives a country club feel however “We’re not the Country Club, Just a GREAT club in the Country”. GREAT GOLF! GREAT VALUE!

The wife and I are on a golf trip up to Gaylord and we’re looking for a course on the way up. Saw pretty good reviews on tee off.com and it was a family run course so we decided on the Tamaracks after not being able to play 18 at the Sneaux State Course because of leagues.

This course has hills and elevation very small greens overall, a lot of water in front of the greens and in between the holes but is in very good overall condition with a lot of sand traps also. So although I enjoyed it my wife did not enjoy it a little too tough for her.

For some reason they sent us out the back line 1st to allow the workers to start watering the course because it has been so blessed to dry here in May. When we made the turn to the first hole hole there were two foursomes in front of us which kind of irritated us so we skipped ahead of them. I think the course has a lot of character and enjoyed it on a very hot Tuesday afternoon May 30, 2023. We pay $27 each senior rate and start it up about 330. I see it on tee off.com sometimes for less and that would be a great value. If you are in the area I would give it a try for sure. Has been run by the same family for 40 years or so from what I am hearing. The golf carts are pretty rough though very old Yamaha’s

We've been members for years. Mike does a great job. It's a surprisingly tough course cut out of the woods with a LOT of water in the northern lower. Enjoy!

We picked this golf course based on location. Not sure what it would be like, we were pleasantly surprised. It is well kept, the club house is well maintained and the staff were friendly. The course was challenging, but not overly so. We enjoyed the experience and plan to go there again in the future.

Not a ton of choices in Harrison to golf so this course works out well. Decent views and right off the expressway north of town. A few spots to lose a ball or two but you do not need to be great to golf here.

Well you might not fear it but you sure better get over it if you don't want to plant a bunch of GOLFISH eggs, this is a short but fair course that makes you pay for errant shots big time with water on over half the holes! Have fun and enjoy a round.

Don't get me wrong, I've play over half of the top 50 golf courses in the world and this isn't one of them. However, Tamaracks is an absolutely fun and enjoyable experience.
The course is short - 5900 from the tips, but distance isn't what this course is all about.
Well conditioned blue grass fairways and excellent bent grass greens with much undulation.
Water is in play on over half the holes making this a strategic test of the game.
For the price and the fun I'm putting this on my list for warm up courses on northern golf trips.

Tamaracks Golf Course in Harrison Michigan is now a fave of ours. Course is a Par 71 and 5,700 approximately from the back tees. The course was well groomed and rates are very reasonable. Golfed one of the best rounds of the year so far. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Great service.

We only got to play the front as we got rained out on the back. Carts did not have windshields or bag covers. It was in good shape and not a piece of cake. What we played, we enjoyed. In talking to others, the food is good but we didn't eat there. Friendly staff. Nice flowers.

We love it here. There is a limited menu, but the food is great. The fish on Friday is wonderful. The Hawkins family really knows how to treat you. The golf course is beautiful. A hidden gem in Northern Michigan!
