- PeteTuggerah, Australia126 contributionsA great weekend with the family (again)An excellent four days for our family. We had an excellent time with GA tickets. Staff were good at keeping people informed and the site was mainly clean. Sunday race day it was disappointing to have full bins on arrival. There should be more big screen TV’s for those on GA tickets particularly along the DRS zone at the back of the track. There’s plenty of room and if more TV’s were available this would spread the crowd along the straight.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 25, 2024
- unKnoown_MMelbourne, Australia1 contributionF1 March 2024The overpass to get to various parts of the track was REALLY congested. F1 is noisy so come prepared with ear plugs. Seeing the race around various track angles is a great perk of having a parks pass. Some food is quite overpriced.Visited March 2024Traveled with friendsWritten March 25, 2024
- Melissa WMelbourne, Australia42 contributionsGet there early if you are not in a grandstand.Trams on the Friday were constant from St Kilda/Toorak Road up to gates 7-10 though when leaving we ended up walking a few blocks as they were so overcrowded with massive lines. Friday we sat in the Waite Grandstand which ended up being a good choice with quite a bit of action on this corner. Right behind it was the car displays and large food area with a large toilet area as well. Saturday and Sunday we were on the general admission passes entering at Gate 5 which is quieter but brought chairs and a blanket with us, got there very early as gates opened and had a great view on the back straight near the Button stand. View was unobstructed by others as we were sitting in front of the fence. Lines for food varied depending on the time we went and what was on track, some times were very short waits and others quite long. Toilet queues were long but moved very fast so no issues there either. We had a good time this year compared to 2022 with the addition of the F2 and F3 to the program. When we went last and will try to make it an annual visit.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten March 29, 2024

As others have stated the facilities were totally inadequate. We had our water confiscated at the gate to be allowed to buy water for $5 once inside. That was the last time we were able to get drinks.
Queues were rediculously long and three times we lined up for over an hour to be told they had sold out, absolute joke! We ended up leaving early, last straw was the raw sewerage pouring out of the toilets on two seperate areas.
Also loved how people outside were allowed to climb the fences and trees and watch with a better view for free. Most viewing areas you were unable to see the cars as it was level and below the track. The few hills were totally packed and unable to see at all.
Always wanted to see the GP but never again. An absolute waste. Digital maps didn’t work most of the time so you had no idea were to go, they didn’t think to add large maps around the grounds just some pointless signs with no info.
I’ve been to many race circuits both here and overseas, Indy etc but never experienced anything close to this shambles.

As per the other reviews I was extremely disappointed in the level of support given given to patrons.
The issues covered ticketing (we had to get some of our tickets at the gate - some arrived in advance but others didn't), trying to get out through Gate 1 after qualifying was like sitting in a cattle truck for 1 hour and probably a great super spreader (as we approached the gate some person on a loud speaker informed the masses - it will be a 1 hour wait for a tram - fantastic!) , food and drink queues were insane, no data coverage to look at maps or anything else, very little shade.
They may have set a record this year for attendance due to post COVID demand but I am sure many wont return and I am one of them

Had a blast, but need deep pockets, the entry fee and Stand tickets need saving for! No point doing general admission, there were 130,000 people in Albert Park on Sunday and at 5 foot 3, I found in 2022, it was pointless trying to view the track. This year a huge improvement on 2022 with water available and more food stalls, more big screens, the year before was pitiful. The only criticism would be the idiocy of restarting from the grid with three laps to go. The carnage at turn one was heartbreaking, with cars destroyed as every driver back in with a chance, and then to ice the cake of stupidity, they ran one more lap under the safety car! WTF the race should have been called with 3 to go and all this crap would have been avoided. Not sure whose decision it was but someone needed his/her head reading. What were they thinking! Could only have been heat stroke from the sunny day!

2022 - a farce
I’ve been to the Australian GP every year it’s ran since 1995.over those years it has been honed and perfected to become one of the greatest gps on the calendar. UNITIL 2022. The longest queues for food and drink I have ever seen. I went all day without food and rarely had a drink as the queues were so long it was pointless. This occurred today , Saturday. If you are going tomorrow , the main race day, and you are not in a facility. I pity you . Also the flypast that has occurred every year did not this year . Very disappointed and embarrassed for Melbourne . One star

Everything here is so unorganized, customer service is truly bad( no one says hi, smiles, or knows any details to help you).. they have posters at the lounges offering free products but they don't exist. There is only one bar and there is a constant long line. staff is rude and does not know how to operate their card processors... if they make a mistake they will not fix it. I have seen way better events and customer service in less developed countries. Australia is a joke. 😑 you pay for a great experience which gets ruined by the employees. Painful and unfair! I have been to over 40 countries , I experienced different situations and this(being in Australia) is laughable, in a sad way

Unfortunately the GP was cut short this year due to COVID-19. However, I did get to experience Thursday at the track. Seating was fantastic, along with plenty of food and drink options (and easy access to them).
Venue is pretty well laid out, however some additional directional signage and staff knowledge would help. Not quite to the standard of the Singapore F1 GP.
Overall, looking forward to hopefully returning next year to see the actual F1 weekend!!

We bought a multi-day pass to Aus GP. Wanted to see Supercars as much as F1.
Bought our tickets through P1 Travel. Won't do THAT again.
Ricciardo Stand is between T3 and T4. About 100m of track. You can't see ANY action. You spend your time looking left and right and ... we didn't bother going back after the first practice session. Packed up and went home 2 days early!
P1 travel advertised the stand as exit of P4 so you could at least see along the small straight and 2 corners. Wrong!

My son and I have been attending the Australian F1 in Melbourne now for some time, it has become a ritual for us.
You never know what weather you will get until race day as Melbourne is renowned for it's fickle weather.
The event is extremely well organised, you can buy tickets for the stands in the preceding months right down to buying a general admission pass at the gate on the day .Once in you are free to roam amongst the hundreds of classic cars on display by their proud owners, watch the Carrera cup V8 races and constant track events.
There is food and drink available everywhere and and merchandise aplenty.
No matter where you walk there is something going on to entertain until the race starts.
And when it does hold on and be prepared for non stop action to the end.
There is free trams to and from the precinct, in the years we have been going I have never seen a fight or any disorderly conduct, families everywhere.
Just good clean fun!
Go on make a day of it next year, book your accommodation and flights early and don't miss out

Great vibe, can get close to the action and plenty of stuff to do when cars aren't on the track.
Highly recommend the Club 15 area ... good track position, good access to screens, super easy to get drinks at the bar and food options close by.
Couldn't pay me to go back to Parc Chalet by Emerson which I did for the Sat & Sun. Not sure if they undercatered or hospitality staff haven't worked an event like this before but ate 5 or 6 things over 2 days. And that was only after having to virtually stop the servers walking past.
And it always amazes how these places find bar staff who are more focused on preening & pouting rather than serving. It's like the Establishment group in Sydney shipped all their crap staff from 5 years ago to this tent for this GP!
Few screens around to watch things. While I was aware of the track position on turn 14 ( not great), I didn't realise the marquee is about 50m from the track so you aren't even close to it. If you're more interested in what your insta story for the day will look like than the racing, you might like this.

It depends on what you want to pay. The track is only a few kms from the city, with a regular tram service. The Windsor is a grand Victorian era hotel, which provides good service. The Sofitel Melbourne on Collins is a five-star European hotel. Collins St is Melbourne's main commercial street.

s any one been to club 15 before? is it worth the upgrade? or is there a better stand that i can take a 13yr old too that isn't going to break the bank?
thanks

Chantelle,
no experience of Club 15 sorry, my experience is open Grandstands with 12/13 year olds and regretting not being under cover . Most lately have taken the hit and for the past 5 years been under cover , its worth it.

With a Thursday general admission ticket do you have access to the grandstands?
Written March 9, 2019
Going to get general admission tickets for Melbourne 17th March 2019. Is Ticketmaster best option and where do you think is the best place to watch the race and how early should I be there to claim my spot? I'm not very tall so on a hill normally bext for me.
Written December 28, 2018
For general admission, you can buy the tickets at all the gates except Gate 1. As the GP is on for 4 days (Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th). If you don't want to attend on one of the days, you are not wasting your money by pre-buying your tickets.
You can walk all around the track, both inside and outside of the track, so you can check out different locations, to watch the race before race day.
Be careful as it can get VERY hot, and there is no shade track side.
I think Gates open at 10AM on race day, and there is normally a queue to enter, so I would suggest you buy the ticket for race day (Sunday) on your first visit to the track
Written December 28, 2018
Also.. if you buy grandstand tickets can you also roam in the general admission areas if you want to get closer to the track etc or are they separate admission areas?
If I was to get a roaming grandstand ticket which is the best one, which stand is the best to be in for race day? And are the prices indicative of how good the views/Sears etc are? As they vary from stand to stand. Sorry for all the questions, I’d ask my boyfriend as he’d know but it’s meant to be a surprise gift 😬 thank you
Written October 11, 2018
buy one of the tickets where you sit in different stands each day
Written October 11, 2018
Hi guys, my boyfriend is a huge F1 fan and we have recently moved to Australia from the UK. I want to get him tickets for Melbourne for his birthday in November. When do general admission tickets go on sale and how much do they cost roughly? Also is the advantage to the 4 day pass ticket that you can do a pit walk? He’d love that so tempted to buy that and from what I can gather Brabham and Jones are the best stands to aim for. Any info or suggestions on best tickets/prices/accessing pit etc most appreciated as it’s his 30th so want to make it special. Thank you !
Written October 11, 2018
I’m not sure when they actually go on sale because I only booked Australia 6 weeks before I travelled there & bought the tickets the day before the race, plus only got Sunday tickets so not sure about the full 4 day package, you do get good access to places with the general admission tickets though
Written October 19, 2018
Hi would any one have any recommendations on the best stand to be in and what ticket would be best value and overall experience to get? Please
Written September 4, 2018
Piquet or Riccardio are great but probably expensive, great viewing though. If you need a cheap alternative go GA with a club 15 upgrade. enjoy
Written September 6, 2018
Where is the best place to book tickets and accomm for the Melbourne F1? I have always booked direct with Silverstone in UK, as their packages seem to work out alot cheaper. I want General admission and accommodation for 4 nights. Or any advice on booking seperately, and opinions on best Grandstand if you recommend that as a better option.
Written July 31, 2018
You can buy general admission tickets at the gates to the track, so there is no need to buy the tickets before hand. The track is in the heart of Melbourne and trams to the track are free for F1 Ticket holders. Trams leave from Southern Cross Station to gates 1, 2 and 3. If you want to buy your tickets at the track, you have to get off at gate 2 or 3 as gate 1 does not have a ticket booth.
I hope this answers your question If you need more info please contact me again.
With the kindest regards
Craig

Does anyone know if there is any driving course you can have on the race track on regular days? In Barcelona, they have formula 1 or other cars for 1 day of training for fun for tourists.
Written June 21, 2018
Melbourne is a street circuit, during the year some of the race circuit is used for normal traffic, id be surprised if you could drive around the designated track at times other than when the race is on
