We've been to Adventure Mine twice now, the most recent was this past weekend. We did the Miner's Tour both times and loved it! We geared up underneath the entrance/gift shop, which was the foundation of one of the old buildings, and learned about the history of this specific mine, mining in the area, the geological history of the area, and a lot more. Then we rode in Swiss Army vehicles up to an entrance to the mine. The first part of it is the Prospector's Tour and we were joined by people on that tour (which does mean there can be kids, just FYI). Both times the guides were incredibly knowledgable, funny, and easy to get along with, which is good in an enclosed space. Our guide this time, Austin, answered everyone's questions easily and with a lot more patience than I would have had. After the Prospector's Tour part, most of the tour left, and we rappelled down an old air shaft. It was pretty nerve wracking, but that's only because I don't like heights. Another guide joined us for the rappelling portion and both of them explained everything thoroughly and reassured us about how safe everything was. Then we explored a lower level of the mine, walked across a very freaky but very safe bridge, and after exiting the mine took a short walk back to the main area/parking lot. Also, Austin talked about how they recently pumped the water out of the flooded third level, which has apparently been preserved extremely well because of the water; we'd definitely come back for a tour of that area!

I'm definitely glad we went, and I would recommend it, but I'm not rappelling again any time soon! We did the Miner's Tour which includes rappelling; going over a wobbly bridge over a deep, dark chasm; and walking down a pretty steep & slick path. While the bridge & other part were a little unnerving, the rappel had me more petrified than the rest of the group. I would probably still give this a "5" IF I felt they had checked my gear properly beforehand. Luckily (and this is one reason they do it, probably), they have you practice rappelling ahead of time on the cage that surrounds the hole you'll drop into. I had part of my equipment hooked up wrong, and they didn't notice until I practiced three or four times. I wish they would have been more thorough with that earlier is all, because I'm the one who actually asked about it. Anyhow, everything else was great except that I ended up w/ a huge bruise on my stomach afterward. My wife got twisted going down as she lost her balance, and the worker up top somehow ran down to help her. I thought she'd busted her arm as she got it pinned behind her. Luckily, she was fine, it just made me take a while to try it. The gear must've just been hitting me wrong when I rappelled since I ended up w/ the colorful bruises afterward. I didn't really struggle too much doing it. Another scary part was the ride to the actual mine. We had a very full vehicle, and I don't want to think about what could've happened on that thing if it fell back on the slick rocks!

Excellent experience with the Captain's Tour. The company provided the necessary gear (harness, clips, hard hats, gloves, and backpack), lunch (pasties), and a bottle of water per person. We (2 adults) came dressed for 48 F (long pants and long-sleeve shirts/jackets that we didn't mind getting dirty) and wore waterproof hiking boots (which easily handled the stone/dirt/water puddle/timber walking surfaces). Our guide Brandon was friendly and helpful, and he shared lots of interesting information and history during the tour, which lasted 5-ish hours. We also rappelled, went down a slide, and navigated some screes. Overall, the tour was great fun, and I highly recommend it.

I went on the tour that was around a couple of hours. The tour guide was very professional and knowledgeable of the history of the mine. I was a customer with a visual impairment. The tour guide, upon knowing that information, made the presentation very inclusive. She made sure that she described where we were in detail as to what things looked like. She told me where things were that she was talking about in relation to where I was and/or took me to the space she was talking about (such as to a particular mining tool so I could feel it as she was describing it). She made sure that if she was holding a tool that others could see, that she handed it to me so I could 'look' at it. When we were walking from one point to another in the mine, she told me about the terrain, low clearance, etc. I felt very safe as I was on the tour. The tour was awesome and I recommend it. It is somewhat cool in the mine. A light jacket is ideal. It's good for older kids as the ground in the mine is very uneven and darkness may make younger kids uncomfortable.

My sister and I, who are in our late 50’s and early 60’s, did the Miner’sTour with Preston as our guide. He was knowledgeable about the mine and the safety aspects of the harness, ropes and belay down the airshaft as well as navigating the rope/wooden slat bridge over a deep pit. Mike and Jenny helped when more than one guide was needed for certain parts of the 2-3 hour tour. Excellent team with great energy. We felt welcomed and supported.

A great little spot to explore with family. Small kids would enjoy the short tour. They do turn off all the lights for a few seconds to show total darkness. Visitors wear hardhats with headlamps on them and that is the only light on the tour. There is a nice gift shop where you can buy copper in different forms and local rocks and crystals. "Port-a-potties" are in the parking lot for customers. No facilities underground. The mine entrance is a short drive from the HQ or gift shop. You get to ride in an old military vehicle, pretty fun in its own right. Staff are very friendly and have a knowledge of the mine and its history. We did not take the longer tour that involves rappelling down a mine shaft. That looked very fun! Maybe next visit.

Looking for something a little bit different? Then this is the adventure for you. Depending on where you are coming from, it might be a bit off the beaten path, but plan ahead and the drive can be broken up. This is something you don't want to miss. For my family and I it was a unique experience. We have been in caves before, but never in Michigan and never a mine. This has an all-terrain vehicle ride to the mine where you are armed with a hard hat (thank God...I bumped my head an embarrassing number of times) with a headlight. The light on your helmet and the lights on the helmets of the tour guide and other visitors will be the only light in the mines. This...can sound scary/intimidating. Our 11 year old was concerned about this dynamic and we had nothing to compare it to. Once inside you see that there is nothing to worry about. With all the head lamps, there was plenty of light. Not scary at all. The tour guide is what takes a good experience and makes it great. Ours was Eli and he was knowledgeable and funny. This mine was used in the movie "The Dwarves of Dragon Mountain" and there is some reference to it in the tour. He did not recommend watching it, but we did that night anyways. It wasn't very good, but was kind of neat seeing the mine we were just in. We saw a bat on our way out which we all thought was really cool. There are a variety of tours, some of which include some repelling (which we did not do). It was a blast!

My wife and I had a blast on the miner’s tour. Our guide, Ross, was very friendly and knowledgeable about the commercial history of the mine, how the miners worked and geology of the mine. He was assisted by Dean who was also an amazing guide. They were both very helpful as we navigated through level 1 and especially in the tricker level 2. Really enjoyed the Swiss Army rock climbing truck thing on the way to the mine! What a blast. Turn off your headlamps and explore the mine by candlelight. Great fun. The rappelling to level 2 was the highlight as well as the tricky bridge across the chasm. Perfect length of three hours. Great tour guide; very well run company. Highly recommend.

The experience was truly amazing! It was an easy and interesting hike through the mine. The guide was extremely knowledgeable. When the walking tour was over, those not doing rappelling ended their trip. We went on for another 1.5 hrs of fun playing in the mine doing rappelling and other ropes course activities. Truly a unique experience!!!

Is there any climbing up or down hills on this tour?

There are a variety of tour options, two are more challenging and include respelling. We chose the longer walking tour with no rappelling. The ground is uneven and there are loose rocks at some point, includes stooping, bending and uphill grades.Such fun! But if balance, coordination or exertion are problems for you, this may not be the right tour for you.
What is the price for adults kids seniors and how long is the tour

The price is going to depend on which tour you take. We did the tour where you get to rappel (not the one where you also get lunch) and it was $60/person and it lasted about 2.5-3 hrs. The time also depends on how many people in your group because you have to rappel one at a time. There were 7 of us. It was definitely worth the time and money. :)

What are the difference in the levels?

Level 1 is the only level most tours explore. The Miners tour repels to the top on level 2. The Captains tour explores all of level 2. Levels 3 on down are currently flooded. Mike (tour guide)
