We did a combination of walking and driving. We had difficulty zooming in and out to read the on-line map and navigating. We would have preferred the house tours which would have been more personable. Similiar historic areas in Illinois.

This was a nice after dinner activity to get up and walking around. There is easy parking, the homes are beautiful, and there is a digital map that allows you to have a self-guided visit. We only wound up walking about half of the area,...More

We went on the historic tour again this year. This is a lovely area. You don't have to do the tour to enjoy the homes. It's lively simply just to take a stroll.

The architecture and genius behind each of these gems always amazes me, and no two homes come close to being the same. These are truly treasures of this fine town.

There are some interesting older houses, that someone who is interested in 20st century buildings might find worthy of a walk

Please keep in mind, there are 2 separate things being reviewed in this thread: 1) the walking tour of the historic homes, which one can do all year long for free and 2) the PAID tour inside the homes which happens one weekend per year....More

Really liked the architecture in this area and found the map provided on the website to be helpful (though there was road construction that prohibited us from seeing some of the homes). Wished we could have seen the Frank Lloyd Wright house but it was...More

We just parked on a side street and walked the area. The Castle is gorgeous. Felt safe walking and exploring.

Much effort is going into restoration and preservation of this district. The homes are unique and their landscaping is gorgeous! Pick up a map (we got one at the Meyer-May house) so you don't have to try to squint at a tiny one downloaded to...More

There are only selected homes open for tours just 2 days a year (May 19th and 20th of 2018) for $20.50. The Meyer May house is open for tours Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays (limited hours) most of the year and it is free... More
