Excellent regional art museum

Rotating galleries. Always something different to see. Great curator puts together interesting shows. Open until 9:00 pm on Thursdays and it's free.

After all the raves about GRAM, I hoped I would not be disappointed. It turned out to be even lovelier than I had expected. Instead of the usual chronological or "school of" grouping, the works are displayed in a seemingly idiosyncratic manner that works. The photographic display showcased gorgeous works by famous and not so famous artists. No digital photos... More

I'm partial to the GRAM as this is where we hosted our wedding/reception. Outside of an awesome event, the GRAM consistently offers a top of the line curation to be experienced year round. Whether it's during ArtPrize or their summer concert series, they never cease to impress.

On Thursday evenings (early July- August) the GRAM has free concerts from 6-9 pm. Concerts are held outside the museum, food trucks are parked in front, and there is a cash bar. Admission to the museum is free during this time.

Full disclosure--we are members of GRAM, so I am biased. That said, GRAM is a wonderful museum. Its central location makes it convenient to other downtown Grand Rapids museums, restaurants, and entertainment. The building itself is a piece of art, and the fact that it's LEED certified is a bonus. The permanent collection is varied and just the right size to... More

The GRAM is a favorite place to visit when downtown Grand Rapids. Tuesday's are free. Memberships are available and affordable for regular visitors. The museum has a wide range of art. Andy Warhol to classic artists to new exhibits that make you think. The GRAM always has top art during ArtPrize that sometimes has an extended stay.

Wonderful building, quiet, bright and airy. Exhibits are well presented and curated. While few of the exhibits are spectacular, there are some interesting pieces, particularly the furniture. Current exhibition of etchings by Whistler and contemporaries is delightful

There are some lovely features of this museum and offers some lovely exhibitions. The intimacy of the small concerts they have is as sweet as the quality of the music. It's a great way to spend some time.

The GRAM is accessible and interesting for everyone from babies to retirees. I frequently visit with my baby and toddler on free Tuesdays (sponsored by Meijer), and we're never disappointed by the permanent or temporary installations. Though it's packed during ArtPrize, you must visit during this festival to see some of the best, and likely the winners.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum is housed in a very original building. The architecture itself is worth the visit. During Art Prize, in the fall, many of the most interesting pieces are displayed at the museum. It has a nice auditorium that frequently features chamber music.
