Had a free morning and went shortly after open. This was in the early stages of the coronavirus (about a week before the stay at home orders) and the place was totally empty the whole time my wife and I were there. I very much enjoyed the glass artwork the most by far. Otherwise it is a fairly average museum. A bit pricey considering what is all to see. There are plenty of parking garages nearby so parking is not an issue.

Arrived in town Saturday afternoon and by the time
We checked into our hotel the museum was closed Already And it was
CLOSED on Sunday. So basically if you want to visit from our of town on the weekend you only have a few hours to do so. So much for sharing art with working folks

There isn't a whole lot of artwork to see, so I wouldn't pay $10 to visit. But if you have some time to kill on one of the free days (Tuesday and Thursday) I would check it out. It is 3 floors but there really isn't much to see on the 1st floor. The 2nd floor was all photography. The 3rd floor had mostly paintings and some sculptures.

The Grand Rapids Art Museum is generally lacking in "important" art, in terms of works you would recognize. There are some interesting collections here but on the whole, this museum doesn't measure up to other museums in cities of comparable size. Worth a visit if you have spare time in Grand Rapids, but not a "must-see".

This is an impressive small museum in downtown Grand Rapids. The collection is pretty good, highlighted by the Keeler collection of contemporary art which is quite good. Admission is free on Thursday nights.

There is a lot of talent in that building. It is refreshing to view every floor and the gift shop of course.
I have seen quite a line to enter this building at times, but it is always worth going. I am a canvas painter
myself, so I totally enjoy everything I see. And envy the creativity of the artists.

We had a couple of hours to kill downtown, so decided to visit the Grand Rapids Art Museum. There are several floors with different exhibits. Everyone is sure to find the type of art they love.

Has been poor for years. Remains poor. Went this week to see the nuppets. That was nice. The rest of this place is pathetic. Elevator did not work. No paper towels in the second floor bathroom. And this was at the days opening, noon.
Doors opened late. Gift shop closed. I've been to about 75+ art museums. This is the worst.

I come here at least once per year. I love art. I am an artist. This gives me pleasure. There is also things now and then in the evening here to seek out. The museums store has very unusual things here for kids and adults to purchase. So the shopping part is a must do and see. [Art Prize] is our special time here also. Much to appreciate in Grand Rapids, MI.

I need to start by saying I've never been to the big Art museums in NY. However I have been to some in Washington DC and Chicago and plenty of smaller ones throughout Michigan. So I finally get myself to go to my hometown one and what did I think?
LAME
They could do so much better. The 1st floor was nice it had some art of animals that was decent. the 2nd floor was closed for a new exhibit. The 3rd floor is the main art floor and it was LAME. Some bad scenery, some phots of nobodys done by nobodys that were goodish but not masters. Some sculptures that were dumb, and I love sculptures. Too top it off there really wasn't very much art there period.
Save your money, go to Chicago, New York, or DC!
GRAM SUCKS in comparison.

I attended ArtPrize in 2016 and 2017. It was fantastic with so much interesting art. This year felt like a big fizzle. Nothing too exciting. What happened to the outside exhibits around museums, office buildings, etc. I saw 1 water exhibit outside the Ford museum. The alligators on the lawn were OK. Unfortunately lots of kids climbing and jumping on them :( So many DO NOT TOUCH signs. Don't folks know that you don't touch art?

Hi! In the United States, lots of students do not get much art education as part of their regular curriculum. So, knowing such basics as not touching the art unless it expressly says it's okay is not second nature to many American children. The alligator piece looks like something from a playground, so it is understandable that people have been sitting on them. The artist should have made them durable enough to accommodate such frolicking because this was a predictable outcome. I saw the GRAM exhibits this year and last year during ArtPrize, and the "Intersection" cube that is on display as a previous winner from before is eons better than anything on display for ArtPrize at the GRAM this year in my personal opinion.
