Driving through the Tunnel Of Trees is fun and exciting. Stopping here at the General Store is just as good.

As a retired mailman, it was fun seeing the old (still operational) Post Office inside the General Store.

They have a bakery in the back and they have some great stuff. The cookies are fantastic!

I’ve lived in Michigan my entire life and have been blessed enough to see almost the entire state. The Good Hart general store ranks in the top 5 of my favorite places I’ve ever been! I loved everything about it. The store itself is very cool and the fact that it’s still the present day post office was even cooler! The day we visited there was a gentleman selling apples and other fresh food at a stand outside and a few craft sellers as well. I was even able to enjoy a gluten free cookie!!! I honestly loved my 30 minute visit and will smile every time I think about it.

I was taking a motorcycle trip with my friends from PA through Ontario and Michigan. We were looking forward to enjoying The Tunnel of Trees as we traveled south from the UP. Unfortunately, we experienced rain which was very heavy at times. Although we stopped at the Good Hart General Store before opening hours, we were afforded safety from the storm. While Jim sorted the mail, we were able to visit while enjoying a warm cup of coffee. The kindness extended to us was immeasurable. We could not have been treated any better by the owners and their wonderful staff. Each of us left with a few very nice souvenirs, but the friendships we made and the memories we have will last forever. When traveling M119 make certain you stop at this gem. I know we will all stop the next time that we are traveling in northern Michigan.

As we were driving through the Tunnel of Trees, we made a quick stop at the general store after being made aware of it from another stop. The store is quaint, with a bunch of stuff from snacks, drinks, and souvenirs to a deli counter, home made soup and pot pies in the back. The day we stopped, they had made Pumpkin/Apple soup which was absolutely delicious! The pot pot we took to go was also very good.

More importantly, the owner is a friendly guy and a veteran who enjoys chatting with fellow vets and thanking them for their time in the service.

The Good Hart pot pies are phenomenal. We tried beef and chicken flavors. Also fruit pies (peach, to die for). This place is on M-119, Good Hart (tunnel of trees). Ideal spot for grabbing essentials if, like us, you don’t have time to drive 20 or 30 minutes to a larger supermarket. Great little place.

Make this a stop on your drive through the tunnel of trees. It's a quaint little place that serves as the area's post office as well as general store. It's definitely worth the time to stop, shop, and grab a bite to eat. The food is quite good, especially the famous pot pies which you can buy frozen to take home with you. They have a deli area set up in the back of the store where they sell soup, sandwiches, ciabattas, specialty meats & cheeses. While there, I had the chicken salad croissant and my husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We both enjoyed our meals (although we ate in our car because there's not a dining area inside the store). The homemade cookies and pies are delicious, too! There's also a decent but small selection of unique gifts. It can be a busy, crowded place; I'd expect there are long lines during peak season and weekends. My elderly mom had a hard time maneuvering her walker down the aisles, so be aware of this if travelling with a disabled person or children in strollers. The hours are limited; the store closed at 5:00pm on the weekday afternoon of our visit - so be sure to plan your trip to take full advantage of your time there. Before you leave, don't miss the opportunity to take some pictures. The place is surrounded by nature and country roads and the fall color is breathtaking!

Greetings and thank you so much for not only visiting "Downtown" Good Hart, but also for writing such a thorough review of your visit. Please offer our sincerely apologies to your mother for our tight quarters. You are correct that it's a bit much to maneuver at times, however due to the historic nature of the building, we'll likely never remodel unless necessary. Once again, we thank you very much for visiting and we hope to see you many times into the future.

We've been here many times over the years. Always enjoy a visit to this small convenience/grocery store, gift shop, deli, and cool little post office. Very popular stop for travelers and locals alike. A definite stop on your M-119 scenic drive.

They have fabulous potpies, pies, cookies and deli sandwiches. Decent prices. The small souvenirs offered are cute, though somewhat overpriced.

Sometimes they have entertainment outside the store. They have a fire going in the fall, where many will gather for a band, to eat their lunch or snack, talk with locals /other tourists, or just to be warm and be in the great outdoors in God's country.

The small post office is unique to say the least, and if they have time, they will show you around and explain the workings of it.

The best part is Jim. He's a patriotic guy. He's got stories to tell you. He's friendly, enjoyable guy to listen to and discuss various subjects with. But he stands his ground and will speak out when he doesn't agree! We loved him!

Parking is along the road, watch when you cross the street! Watch for cars pulling in and out.

I've read about the port a pot. I've never seen nor used it. Don't plan too, either!

Highly recommend!

Greetings and THANK YOU so much for the lovely review. Our apologies for taking so long to respond, but we're a bit dormant in the off season when not many "new visitors" are passing through. Glad you enjoyed my dad, Jim - he's a talker for sure!! Thank you for visiting and for the comments - we definitely hope to see you again very soon. Until then, safe travels and thanks for visiting Downtown Good Hart!! ❤️

Hands down. Best cookies I have ever had. I want one right now, and every day for the rest of my life...and I want the recipe....tattooed on my forearm so I can read it and add ingredients to the Kitchen Aid at the same time. OMG - pure delight.

Word of caution. Know how to get back to civilization before you visit. The store is at the start or end of the tunnel of trees depending, but there's not a strong signal in the area, so I was left to my own internal GPS to get to Mackinac City. Quite the adventure.

Stopped because of the reviews on Trip Advisor and enjoyed our visit with the clerk that was also the postmaster. She was patient with our grandson taking the time to explain how the mail gets sorted etc. There were lots of things for sale including bakery so stop by and say hello.

Hi there and thank you so much for choosing to visit! We appreciate the kind review and we're happy to hear your grandson enjoyed the show here at Good Hart 49737. Our post office was established in 1874 and we still have the framed recognition from Washington! Thanks again and visit soon.
