We called into the cafe & gallery on our way back from Russell. They make an AMAZING pot of tea - using the T2 brand, and it was a VERY welcomed cuppa. The choice of cabinet food was limited but the crossants were lovely and fresh. Beautiful homemade goodies on offer as well.
The Gallery is mind blowing and you really do need at least 30 minutes to have a really good look around!!! There’s an incredible about to ponder in the gallery. Don’t forget to give Leonardo the newest team member a pat and a smooch - he’s a St Bernard and he’s going to be a BIG boy!!!
Good to see that post Covid 19 the doors are still open (& these guys are trying really hard). All the best

We called here after reading about this place on stuff. They really didn’t do it justice!! What an incredible view, great staff & tasty food to add to an awesome atmosphere.
He had a BLAT which was devoured enjoyably. I had a chicken salad, which was really tasty.
We had a walk around outside & ventured into the gallery that had a lot of our favourite things. Probably the best display of New Zealand art we have seen!
This is a must go to place. Take a detour if necessary but don’t miss it. You will be rewarded.

Café
Brilliant breakfast with amazing bacon .
The coffee is a good as any city location and my partners Butternut salad was almost too much to finish.
Do try and sit outside as the views are to die for

Gallery Helena Bay
Like a lot of tourist gallery shops there is usually more not to like than likeable.
This gallery stands out as it has the perfect mis of traditional items but also some interesting modern pieces you would expect in a Wellington or Auckland gallery

We were heading to Okura Beach, about 40 minutes from Whangarei. You could easily blink and miss it! We stopped for lunch here on our way back and had a really good experience. Set amid the bush, with stunning views to the distant ocean, the food, service, plenty of parking, outside covered dining and ambiance were well worth a second visit. We would recommend this venue.

The cafe has changed hands since my last visit. Our experience was average. The till operator did not listen, left an item off the order, then proceeded to try and charge extra for a double shot of coffee! Not cool. I wouldn't rush back.

An easy 30-minute drive from Kamo on a pretty winding road through typical New Zealand countryside. There is good signage and plenty of parking. It is a definitely worth a detour if you are traveling north. A variety of seating options, bar style tables; smaller tables with inside/outside options; a blackboard details the creative menu as you enter and sets out a very varied menu.
Once you choose your seat with a view, then head to the counter to place your order. We found the service to be efficient and friendly. We really enjoyed the meal and spent a leisurely couple of hours enjoying the relaxing scenery.

After we finished our meal, we headed to the Gallery; what a wealth of treasures on display. Allow plenty of time to browse through the Gallery; they have an excellent selection of treasures by many different NZ artists; there are pricepoints for everyone.

Highly recommend both the restaurant and the Gallery.

What to say about this place? If you are on the coast road then you MUST stop. It's an unassuming building when you arrive, but inside it's awesome. The food and coffee was fantastic, as was the service. The setting looking out over the valley and down to the sea was breathtaking and then to top it all they have a high-end art gallery attached to the cafe. Really stunning individual works of art on show (and for sale) - seemed to fit any pocket too (gifts for friends and relatives back home or one-off art pieces / sculptures / paintings etc.) This was not run of the mill. A real treat at the top of the hill.

What a beautiful setting for the cafe with a view from the terasse over the bush towards the sparklingly blue sea, and what a collection of native art - paintings, glass, pottery, jewellery, and oh so beautiful furniture. Our lunch was lovely (lamb burger and lasagne, coffees and German cheesecake to die for), and we may return to buy some prints from the gallery. Beautiful place to explore and we plan to bring our friends.

A beautiful setting for a coffee and a slice of cake. A small garden with sculptures to look at and a beautiful gallery with art and jewellery. Could do with some inexpensive souvenir pieces as quite pricey. Carry on down the very twisty road for 10 mins to stunning Teal Bay..well worth it.
