About
Our family had always been fascinated by alpacas, but it wasn't until 2001 that we decided to bring six of them to our farm. We fell even more in love with these gentle, unique creatures. Not only are they the perfect farm animal, but alpacas also have the warmest, softest, most durable fiber known to man. Wanting to share this incredible fiber with others, The Crystal Lake Alpaca Boutique was officially established on the Nelson Family Farm in the Spring of 2012. The boutique lies within a refurbished barn, and features Northern Michigan rustic appeal using wood harvested from our property. Today, we have expanded the boutique to a second building on the farm and grown our herd to more than 50 alpacas. The boutique carries a variety of alpaca products including hats, mittens, scarves, neck warmers, the famous alpaca socks, sweaters, stuffed animals and much more! Closed holidays and Sundays.

We were able to visit during a sunny day. This Alpaca Farm is excellent! There is information about the alpacas and miniature donkeys and a dwarf goat. For $3.00 per person, one can go into an enclosed area to feed the adorable alpacas. We spent quite a while just watching the alpacas and interacting with them. The Alpaca Boutique (actually there are two) have beautiful items to look at and purchase. The owner was extremely knowledgeable about alpacas and their fur/hair. During this COVID time there were sanitizing stations available and also a limit to the amount of people inside the boutiques. We had an excellent experience and recommend a visit to this great place!

What a fantastic experience! First off, we got there early during the week and it was so quiet there you could hear the leaves fall! This was good as they had a quiet sign by the barn as they had a lot of newborns in their nursery. SO cute! We did the petting and feeding experience and got really up close with the Alpacas and we had their undivided attention. The other animals nearby all came out of the barn when they heard us approach which was super cool. We got a few items at the gift shops and all in all had a lovely time. I would recommend going there and I will definitely go back when I am in the area again!

This visit was even better than the last!! They’ve added a feature where for $3 pp you can go into a fenced, shady area and feed and pet a few alpacas!!! They are so gentle and sweet. Not to mention soft. When the weather is a little cooler, they have a mini donkey and goat to meet, too. A mask is required to enter both gift shops, and you do have to walk through one of the gift shops out to the alpaca feeding area, FYI. Must see if you like animals!!
Large selection of alpaca hair products.

My husband talked me into visiting Crystal Lake Alpaca Boutique and I'm so glad he did. First off we got to see the adorable alpacas frolic in their yard. Then we stopped into the boutique and I didn't want to leave. The shop owner was so informative and friendly, she taught us why alpaca hair is so special and why it's so soft and warm. However the atmosphere of the boutique is what did it for me. The decor, background music and overall feel of the place brings about a peaceful feeling. I felt welcomed to touch and feel things, try hats and gloves on and just browse in peace. I ended up purchasing a wonderfully soft and warm winter hat and beautiful hand painted, super soft and warm alpaca socks. This will be a place that I visit again next time we are in town.

This place was awesome. Skye was in the petting zoo and she loved to eat from the palm of your hand. The boutique had some awesome Alpaca wool products. The socks will be the best you have ever owned. Guaranteed. Quit being a fuddy dud and go, your kids will remember this experience forever. And its free.

The Alpaca Boutique is a lovely, rustic showroom with alpaca products - sweaters, hats, gloves, socks, plus. The owners raise alpacas so one can see some of them in the paddock right across the driveway.

This is a very nice ,small, shopping boutique that has very personable girls working here. I loved watching a baby alpaca being born in July this past summer which was fun for the boys to see them live. Also got to pet a grown white one that was penned near the store entrance. Love their products, because I am skin sensitive to angora and wool products, yet I can wear the alpaca clothing. If you are ever in the area , it's a great hidden find to shop for specialty items for gifts. I love this place and visit it every July !!. Don't miss it if you are ever in the area.

This is a wonder fun place on River Road in Frankfort Michigan. You can see all the different colored alpacas in the barn area and then go shopping in their small store which holds many items made from alpaca wool....which is warmer and softer (and hardly needs washing) than sheeps wool. I especially love their ear muffs and socks. Recently I bought a ball which you put in the dryer. They say it lasts for a thousand loads. I love it because I now don't have to buy bounce which can eventually clog the dryer filter.

I was in town for a law conference for my husband and while he was in sessions was looking for things to do.

Another wife of an attorney and her 11 year old son went there as well.

The store has lots to choose from. I got some incredibly fluffy mittens made of Alpaca. You can watch the babies cavort and play, you can feed the mules, goats and alpacas for $3. Nice stop. I'm glad I went.
