We rented E bikes from the shop. The bikes were very uncomfortable, and not very powerful at all. They do not compare to the bikes that you can rent in Glen Arbor. However, we were having a pretty good day, when all of the sudden on the way back one of the bikes died. We had to pedal it on our own power back to the shop. This was not the experience we paid $80 per bike for. The shop owner said she was sorry but did not offer us any compensation at all. I would not rent from this place again.

We wanted to try out the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail and cover a good portion of the span so Empire was the perfect starting location for an out and back trip. We got great help at this shop picking out a couple mountain hybrid type bikes with a more upright riding position since we planned to spend most of the day out on the trail. They also has 15 speeds of which every one was needed for some of the hilly sections.
The somewhat bigger tires were also good since there was a packed gravel section of the Heritage trail and a dirt road we traveled to get to the Pyramid Point Trailhead for a hike. Since we ended up doing about 36 round-trip miles, the bigger padded seats were also useful.
I wouldn't hesitate to use this shop again when we come back!
