If you're visiting the Art Coast of Michigan (Saugatuck/Douglas), I'd definitely recommend the Joyce Petter Gallery on Blue Star Highway at the Bridge for its superb artwork surrounded by historical architectural elements. The gallery's site is a gloriously refurbished landmark building from the 1930s. Its meandering design pulls you enticingly through room after art-filled room, leading finally to an outdoors courtyard and then the rustic sculpture barn. The staff person there Wednesday, July 13, was most welcoming and informative to us. My husband and I will definitely stop in whenever we're in the area.

Prepare to spend at least an hour if you enjoy viewing a variety of creative works. Don't miss the downstairs level...just follow the sound of the automatic piano! This is also listed on the internet as Button-Petter Gallery.

My husband and I always stop at Petter Galleries because they have a great selection of art. Many artists have been represented for several years but there are always new works to see. The extra bonus is the wine room. They have a great selection where you can taste and buy wine. They offer many wines that are reasonably priced was well.

Traveled to the Saugatuck area for the weekend and happened upon Douglas for art galleries and fresh air. The gallery houses unique works of art and the adorable Lucy dog that was just rescued will greet you first. Very informative and friendly as taking the time to speak with you and engage about the art, artist and business. Thanks again for sharing your time.

My husband found this fabulous gem while searching for new and fun things to do while we were in the area. What a jackpot! So many beautiful works of art to peruse while enjoying a phenomenal wine list. You'll definitely want to try the bread and cheese plate. They stock some incredible cheeses that are also available to purchase. We will be returning soon.

Petted is a huge gallery with 150+ works spread over two floors and a sculpture garden. It also doubles as a well curated wine shop, wine bar, so you can stroll the gallery with wine in hand. Fair prices too.

Enjoyed a wonderful visit during our visit to Saugatuck. We asked the staff to select the cheese and wine for us and surprise us. They choose a Stilton served with honey, a hard goat cheese, and a Gouda. This was accompanied with interesting crackers and nuts and a white wine from Spain. The staff was not only knowledgeable about the wine and cheese but also the surrounding area. Folks could sit up at the bar and they had comfortable sofas as well. Although we did not buy wine or cheese to take away I believe that was an option. They also had lovely jars of jams, honey, etc for sale as well as beautiful artwork.

They do host a large number of private parties so it is worth calling ahead to check on their limited public hours. Wine selection is very nice from prior experience but we were not able to stay as they were closing at 7, but usually open to the general public until 10pm. Had hoped to have friends from out of town here for after work wine and art tour, but some other lucky person rented out the whole building on Friday evening!
As I said, call ahead before you make plans for this hot spot.

My sister and I drove 40 min to see this art gallery and try a special wine and chocolate tasting. What a great experience we had, we started at the hip wine bar with a glass of wine that we took with us as we toured the art gallery which is much larger then it appears because there is a full basement of beautiful art to see and buy. When we returned to the wine bar a table was set up for us with wine and chocolate pairings, also some nuts and an extraordinary nosh plate. The wine and edibles were fabulous and the atmosphere of the wine bar was fantastic. The owner made sure to greet and sit with each customer to personally introduce the wine and food pairings . We had a fabulous time there and will definitely be back as there are often wine and music events. The wine store has a great selection of wines from all over the world and at all price ranges. They have a wonderful thing going here. Don't miss it!
