I was meeting up with a couple college roommates and their spouses in Saugatuk. We tried to think of something fun to do as a group and someone suggested kayaking the Kalamazoo River. So we booked a three hour trip. No Gilligan Island jokes.

The owner was great. Have us a quick intro to kayaking the river and sent us one out way. He did say that the wind was coming hard out of the north and that we might have to cut it short as the river turned into a big lake near the end.

Well he was right. Our river tour became a white-cap covered lake. The owner met us on the river and picked us up and took us back to base. He refunded us to the 2 hour rate.

It was a great trip nonetheless. The owner was very personable.

I just rented a single kayak for two hours and went through downtown Saugatuck and all the way to Lake Michigan. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Very quick service. All the equipment was in great shape and the life jackets weren’t dirty/smelly/mildewy. I’d happily rent from them again on a tour or alone. Their paddle boards looked nice too.

We did the 3hr kayak self tour down the Kalamazoo river. We started at 9am and finished at 11:30 You paddle with the current which makes it VERY easy. The attached picture were taken during our trip. Mike the owner and the crew are very nice and help load , unload and explain in detail the trip and route.

I love that this was a simple small launch into the river that you can either take through downtown Saugatuck and see all the nice houses and big boats, or you can go a more nature route. It was easy to make an appointment. The staff was very nice. The Kayaks were thoroughly cleaned right before our eyes. The price was right. I don't have any complaints and would definitely come back to Running Rivers again!

My husband and I have kayaked many times in various locations but this was our first and last time on the Kalamazoo River. We were looking forward to a relaxing trip and the majority of the 3 hr was spent dodging over a dozen boaters and jet skiers tearing up and down the river creating a wake. Some boaters gave a wide berth and slowed down but many did not. We were very glad that we did not have our kids with us. They can navigate their own kayaks but it would have been stressful for them to constantly be on guard for watercraft traffic. For those who are considering this trip please be advised that the 2hr trip is primarily the river portion and the last hour of the 3 hour trip is just open lake trying to navigate around all the various water crafts. It only took us a little over 2 hrs to complete the 3 hr trip. The bus with the 2 hr trip group arrived back at the same time we did. The company itself was fine and our interaction with the employees was pleasant. The safety talk could use improvement given the amount of traffic on the river.

Husband and I rented a tandem kayak and did a 2 hr. float on a pretty and warm Thursday in mid Sept. The outfitter was very amiable, and being a slow-ish time of the season/week it was as easy as calling a half hour before we wanted to float, to make arrangements. He met us at his boat shack at Wade's bayou and we signed the papers and paid, then he drove us to the put-in spot after giving us clear and detailed info about what we could expect to see of the stretch of river we were going on, and which direction to go on a couple of spots where the river splits, and a map. It was easy going and a highlight to cap off our four days in Saugatuck. Had some friendly chat on the ride, and learned a little about what being a year-round resident of the area is like. Would recommend Running Rivers.

We rented 2 Kayaks. A tandem and a single. My 10 year old loved it! We went out for about an hour. You do have to track your time. No one tells you when to return so you if you go over your hour you will get charged for 2 hours. It was beautiful! the staff were super friendly as well.

Efficient phone reservation 3 days ago brought us to Wades Bayou at the foot of center street in downtown Douglas. For $60 we rented a tandem kayak. The owner/operator and his delightful twin daughters fit us with our gear and then whisked up River 6 miles to begin our trip. The Kalamazoo River is calm and picturesque and we easily covered the 6 miles in 2 1/2 hours. We saw egrets and turtles, blue jays and swallows. Only passing 2-3 fisherman, for a Saturday Am it was quiet and still. Highly recommend for a over of nature.

We booked the sunset tour with Mike from Running Rivers. Our group was driven to Oval Beach, where we launched the kayaks. We found the kayaks easy to maneuver and enjoyed spectacular views of the sunset and moonrise from the lake. The experience was so special and Mike and his daughter, made it easy for us by bringing our kayaks right down to the beach for us. The equipment is well used, but everything worked fine. Some in our group had never kayaked before, and had no trouble. Even the kids found it very easy to maneuver them. We enjoyed two hours on the lake before returning to shore where Mike and his daughter were there waiting to bring the kayaks back to the bus. They were very accommodating and friendly. This is a wonderful experience for all ages. I would recommend making a reservation for this special tour.

At bottom of center street in Douglas. Parking right there. Very accommodating with kids with various sizes of life jackets. We got a tandem kayak and a paddle board. We went out by ourselves but they do all sorts of tours too. It is a quieter and not as crowded area as in sagatuck so better for little kids who may be afraid if large wakes etc. reservations are a good idea, especially on weekends
