Free dog park with nice people and dogs (in general)
Sep 2019
There are two parts to this park- the dog park and the trails. The dog park is a large fenced area where people can bring their dogs off-leash. The trails are walking trails where dog are required to be on a leash. People like to take their dogs off leash on these trails anyway, so be prepared for that possibility.

I go to the dog park almost every day in the summer. You can read the news story about the 1 dog attack, which was a tragedy, but I believe is the exception and not the rule. You'll need to realize that if you want a place to socialize your dog off-leash for free, the risk of your dog being attacked is a risk you're going to have to take. Is it a large risk? No. But a risk. That being said, if you don't know how to have control over your dog while it's off leash, you should not take your dog into the park. I'm talking about both nice and aggressive dogs. Just because your dog is nice, doesn't mean it can't cause trouble or become a victim. Likewise, if you are attempting to socialize an adult dog for the first time, this is not the place.

I feel like I shouldn't have to say that stuff but I do. In general, just be responsible with your dog. I never bring my dog into the park without her remote collar. I never allow my dog to bark at other dogs or get overly excitable. I never allow my dog to run up to the entrance while another dog is trying to come in. I'm constantly watching my dog and other dog's behavior and energy. I do this so I can keep my distance from the possible problem dogs. If I see a dog that is consistently being overly aggressive, we immediately leave.

Love this place - especially for kayaking!

So the “South side” of Padget has some cool walking trails, but the “North side” is where it’s at for kayaking. ADA/Handicapped accesible kayak launches make this a great location. We typically start at River Park (off Bridge St between Webb and Old Town/Main st) with the ADA Kayak put in there, and pull out at Padgett. About a 45 min paddle... perfect for little ones! Super easy ro get in/out

Wonderful natural park

This park has many trails that go through a wonderful woods. Nice experience. Would recommend to anyone that lives in the area as this is a hidden gem. They now have a paved path from Schavey Road that connects to the back of the park.

Horrible Experience

PADGETT PARK IN DEWITT TWSP, BEWARE, it is a dangerous park to walk your dog in my opinion, so sad. As the owner of a new puppy it is sometimes difficult to find a place to go walking with your dog. I took my 5 month old puppy there, and the trails are great for walking your pet, however, there is so much dog poop on the trails it is absolutely shameful to have the privilege of having a designated area to walk with your pet and to see irresponsible dog owners that don't pick up after them. I encountered a man, walking his elderly very large dog off leash and I made my puppy lead shorter anyway, just the mans dog lunged at my puppy, thankfully no injuries. I did relay the incident to the local authorities, and am not sure I will go back again.
