This place was amazing. We brought five kids, ages 5 - 9 and they all had fun for hours! The tree to climb in the middle was a huge hit, but then everything was! They also offered an outdoor free activity for all the kids to try on snow shoes and walk around. I would highly recommend this place!!

DNR Outdoor Adventure Center is located in the historic riverfront Globe building. This building was completely restored to house an amazing outdoor learning center for young children, giving you a sense of outdoors with in the city of Detroit. Experience hands on activities, exhibits, ride on simulators and interactive information.
You can even climb across a bridge, enter a real DNR plane and fly like an Eagle.
It is great to see the city of Detroit have a center like this open to the public right on the river. The cost is small~$5, for adults and $3 for children over 2

Well kept, clean and easy access with free parking close by. I think the best hands on museum in the state of Michigan. Educational, but lots of fun. Flying like an eagle is a favorite. We spent 2 hours here, but could have easily spent 4. Very reasonable admission. Family of 4 is less than $20. When you are finished, take the path to Dequindre Cut to see a whole new world.

My 3 year old had the most fun here but my 8 year old also enjoyed himself. It was educational but we went during spring break and the lines were too long to wait for any of the special activities.

My biggest complaint is the tree stairs. This was a very cute idea but poorly designed. Your kids climb up stairs inside a tree from the 1st floor to the second floor. They then can walk across a suspension bridge. The only thing is that adults have to take the normal stairs which take longer and don’t end up at the same spot. I lost my 3 year old this way and it was a very scary 5-10 minutes. They should make it so that children have an exit that goes right back down to the first floor with their parent. It’s a major safety issue.

What an amazing place. My wife and I had a great time with our boys, who have been asking us to return ever since we left. The Center is fairly priced at $5 for adults and $3 for children over 2. Parking is free which I wouldn't be shocked if that changes. Anyway we spent an action packed 3 to 4 hours there so if you are making a day of downtown make sure you couple this with the splash park, boat tour, hard rock, a ball game, or any of the other great family activity downtown.

Go to Belle Island and then come back to the DNR Outdoor Adventure Center. I would describe as a Cabela's for kids. Lots of exhibits for kids, including a huge artificial indoor water fall. Kids and climb an indoor tree, practice kayaking, fishing, and even camping.

Place is a nice cross between the outdoors in Michigan and some Detroit history. Not expensive and an adult might spend 1-2 hours there. With children, a good portion of a day could be spent... younger children will have more to occupy them than older ones. Very clean facility, courteous staff, very impressive. A walk down by the river is in the deal as well... don’t miss that!

Our experience at Outdoor Adventure was outstanding. Both educationally and for lots of fun, I recommend this museum for any age. The exhibits were creative and interactive. For example, the DNR had a hunting area that included a real fishing boat with a rod and reel that mimics the feeling of catching a large fish. There was also a real kayak with a movie screen of a river trip overhead so you felt like you were actually traveling on the water. There was a life size beaver den and a 30 foot waterfall! My kids loved every minute of our visit. Best part, was the cost. Only $3 for under 12 years old.

The new Michigan DNR Outdoor Adventure Center is a great way to spend a couple of hours after a walk along the river walk in downtown Detroit. The center has simulators, exhibits, and hands-on activities. It is located in the rehabilitated Globe building one block from the river.
Admission is reasonable. $5 for adults and $3 for kids and seniors. Fun and educational for all ages.
