Was in town visiting relatives and wanted to hear some live music away from the downtown casinos. Found this place and had a very great time. Great live jazz and pretty damn good food.

This is an institution. The servers were beyond nice as was the owner who was running the door / coat check that night. I visited on a friday night about 7pm and was lucky to grab a seat at the bar. This place fills up fast and space is very tight. The main room is quite loud when the band is playing, but that is to be expected. The music was great and the crowd was very festive. The food is soul food - fried catfish, mac n cheese, beans, collard greens, etc. And my catfish was yummy. Easily reachable by uber from midtown or downtown, or there is a pay parking lot next door for $3

My 2 adult sons surprised me with a trip to Detroit specifically to take in the Jazz clubs and Hitsville USA. We reserved a table at Baker's the night they were having a live local Latin Jazz band not knowing anything about them We sat right next to the piano player and he was very friendly and gave us a lot of info about the group - the leader played percussion, and the rest of the group comprised of trumpet, trombone, saxes & flute, upright bass, drums, and, of course, piano. The group was full of energy and we enjoyed them thoroughly. The club is quite small so reservations are nearly a must. They serve soul (Southern) food and it was super great testing and there was plenty of it. I had their fried perch and my sons had their fried catfish along with great corn bread, pinto beans, cole slaw, etc. There is a mere $10 cover charge and the food was extremely reasonable. I would definitely recommend Baker's if you are any sort of live music fan, and be sure to also get dinner.

I enjoyed the ambience, however the service needs to be more professional in a historical place such as this. I feel as if management and staff needs to do a little retraining. Although people still patronize this historical building, to not flush through great history of this place down the toilet there's some things that need to be done. I had a birthday party there a while back it was my first experience in the club, they gave away the area that I reserved and I felt like it was an oh well situation. My second time back was just recently. I really enjoyed my time there the food was good but it seemed like it was sitting a little while. I arrived to the birthday party I was going to attend a little late the hostess just explain were packed and she quoted that we just get in where we fit in. I'm just expecting more professionalism in a amazing place such as this. Also the kitchen could use some remodeling. Have such great food coming out of such a rundown old kitchen. This place need to be visited by Gordon Ramsay.

Went to Bakers to show some friends a good time and I called about the dress code was told no jeans or hip hop attire and we walked in and everybody had on jeans. They are very crowned and it they are cramming the people in. A lot different then I remember from the 80's and early 90's

Music was great, food was mediocre. Very disappointed in the way this place was run. When we called in reservations, they say there was a $10 cover, when we got there, they said it was $15. Tables were too small. Five in our party and we almost were stacking plates on top of each others to eat. Won't be back.

The music was wonderful! The food was good, although we waited an hour for it. The waitress said that is typical wait time on the weekend. The drinks however must have been made from the cheapest liquor on the face of the earth. My guests and I came to the conclusion that it must have been homemade moonshine. We had one drink each and we all woke up with a headache that lasted over 24 hours. I was so dizzy after the one drink I felt like I had been drugged. Either ask for top shelf or drink before you come. A guy leaving who was not in our party fell out on the floor and had to be pulled up by several men he was so out of it after drinking there. So again, the music was incredible and you feel like you are back in time so really cool in that aspect just don't expect to get your food quickly on the weekend and steer clear of alcohol unless it is the bottled beer.

I love this place. A bit small but the food is deliciously prepared and the live entertainment is JAZZ. OMG, the MAC & CHEESE, COLLARD GREENS, YAMS and FISH was delicious. REAL FRESH SOUL FOOD.

What a fun place to spend an evening! Really friendly nice people They have two seatings an eight 8:30 PM and a 10-10:15 seating with a $10 cover charge. I would make reservations if you want to go because they get booked, it only seats 101 persons and Baker's has been playing jazz for 83 years. I plan to return again and again!

Baker's Keyboard Lounge is the oldest continuous running jazz club in the world which makes it a must do for anyone in the Detroit area. Luckily it is also a wonderful place in and of itself.

Baker's has great drinks, delicious food, live jazz music, and a diverse, carefree, and welcoming crowd. I have personally been there many times for lunch and dinner and I find everything on the menu to be delicious (although I have a special soft spot for the salmon patties and greens... followed by the peach cobbler). Also, the atmosphere is perfect for anything from a romantic date to a casual gathering of friends to a birthday celebration.

If you have a preference for vocal jazz or four piece sets or anything else, you can always check the schedule on their website. Live music is hard to come by in Detroit considering the economy so if you come on a night where there is a $5 cover charge please keep in mind what you are helping to support.

If you are from out of town, from the suburbs of Detroit, or a student at University of Detroit Mercy who has been warned to stay within the campus parameters, I am telling you to ignore the negative energy and take yourself to Baker's Keyboard Lounge right now! then take your family and friends.

Detroit is full of hidden gems that many people never know about because these places are often in areas that outsiders typically have no need to go to otherwise. As a result many people never know about places like Baker's, or they have heard about them but think it is too dangerous to go to them. Detroiters on the other hand know and love, love, love these places. So if you are an outsider who is weary of exploring beyond downtown, take it from a 25 year old, white suburbanite woman...this mindset only keeps you from experiencing the best that the city has to offer and Baker's is at the top of that long list.

Now, for the love of God, go get yourself a Black Russian and some Baker's peach cobbler this instant!
