- Tansy2015Brighton, Michigan333 contributionsNot all sheds open yetIt was a beautiful Michigan winter day, 43, sunny and Eastern Market was HOPPING! If you want to eat at any of the restaurants, make sure to prepare yourself to stand in line. We should have snacked on food in the sheds, as we were to hungry at 1:30 to wait in line for 45 minutes. So we headed to Hamtramck. Same issues there! But it is the last weekend before lent, so that is probably why. We headed to Belle Isle afterward and had a great day.Visited February 2020Written February 22, 2020
- MidwestKathMDetroit, Michigan869 contributionsA marketplace with something for everyone...shopping, the arts, history, and more!Been going to Eastern Market since I was a little girl back in the 1960s. Our family would drive down every couple of weeks to shop for vegetables and fruit. In later years, my husband and I would drive down for Flower Day to buy flowers, shrubs, and more to plant our garden for the summer, as well as purchasing meats at the nearby Gratiot Central Market and other markets, and cheese at Hirt's. We've enjoyed meals at the many restaurants in and around the Market. We've enjoyed music at Bert's. In recent years, we've come to enjoy Eastern Market for the produce vendors, but also for the Sunday markets, the Thursday evening events filled with music and people and art, and such special events as the annual Detroit Book Fest and those associated with Detroit Design Week. You can park in Eastern Market before heading down to the Dequindre Cut, enjoying some Bea's Lemonade, and then stopping for a bite before heading back home or maybe some shopping at some of the retail and resale establishments. Most recently we stopped in Eastern Market on a brisk February day to get a taste of the Paczki Party at the Detroit City Distillery! Of course, any visit to Eastern Market is brightened up by the Murals in the Market! They brighten up the Market and promote diversity and discussion. For history of Eastern Market, check out the Saturday morning tours offered during the summer by Preservation Detroit. And don't forget to look down as you walk...you might come across some of the pothole art! No matter the time of day, the day of the week, or the time of year, Eastern Market has something to offer! We always bring our out-of-town guests to see the Market for a taste of Detroit!!Visited February 2022Written March 19, 2022
- chris sMuskegon, Michigan195 contributionsGood Saturday morning eventLarge farmers market plus plus plus. Loved walking around the sheds. We bought some veggies, flour, herbs, bread - all very reasonably priced. Very neat bustling atmosphere. Shop some of the surrounding businesses that surround the market. Go eat Supino Pizza on the corner - great pies. Then take the walkway over the freeway to central gratiot market for some “meat” - you will be happy you did. Very cool collection of meat vendors and specialty foods.Visited March 2020Traveled with friendsWritten March 15, 2020
- GregoryNSRockville, Maryland21 contributionsNot a good place to visit during the pandemic. It was ok as city markets go. If you live in the area, there's lot of fresh produce and it looked pretty good. If you are from out of town, well, there's not much there for you but to look around a bit. I went in early October 2020 and the place was crowded. I didn't stay long as it appeared to be the next COVID hotspot to me. People were not socially distancing at all. They were wearing masks but my prediction is that unfortunately Detroit will see a spike in its COVID numbers in the near future. I'd personally recommend you stay away until next year. Aside from the pandemic problem, the market was ok.Visited October 2020Written October 3, 2020
- Eileen HLapeer, Michigan34 contributionsFirst time here in over 50 years and was pleasantly rewarded for the trip back in timeVery easy to find free parking on the street after 12 noon. No sure what it would be like in the earlier hours when Market opens at 6 am. Very busy, very colorful, a lot of friendly outdoor vendors to choose from if you're looking for fresh flowers, clothing, or jewelry, etc. Inside the warehouses are fresh meat shops, fresh fruits and vegetables, etc. We weren't looking for anything in particular but will remember this district if needing to buy anything in these categories in bulk. Not a lot of cooked food to choose from, I think they'd benefit from a few food trucks but that would probably attract insects and need constant cleaning as people these days have little regard for cleaning up after themselves! We enjoyed the atmosphere, there were several street musicians and we stopped to listen to the outdoor musician at the busy Bert's Warehouse. That looked like a fun place to stop and enjoy drinks and a meal.Visited June 2022Written June 20, 2022

It was our first time visiting Detroit and the Eastern Market exceeded our expectations. This is a must see historic market. Merchants mainly sell farm-grown vegetables, flowers, plants, and some small crafts. Biggest downside is parking - spots are limited and the market is always incredibly packed. Upside is that all the shops and foodie-favorite spots in downtown Detroit are just minutes away to enjoy after.Visited May 2023Traveled with friendsWritten June 23, 2023

If I lived here I would definitely buy all my produce and meat here. Lots of homemade foods from local vendors. Bought some candy and popcorn. It was really good. Wanted to go to the antique place by here but couldn't find it. But what we did find were 2 local breweries that were very nice. I especially liked the German one, Lager 42, I believe.

Wonderful stop for site seeing and buying fresh foods.. great market that is huge. So many great finds. Great area for food trucks and fresh vegetables and flowers too. Plan on at least an hour if not more to walk through and see everything. Parking is every where and Saturday gets crowded. But a great stop even visiting Detroit

We had a wonderful tour of the Eastern Market area. Our tour guides, Lori and Bonnie were full of information of the area. They gave history of the area and all the things happening there today. Would highly recommend this tour

Are you asking about Flower Day? Check their website. Also be aware you need to get there VERY early and it is quite crowded. They have plants and flowers every other spring and summer weekend too and prices are great!

Are the vendors out on Sunday's?
StockholmKindaGuy
Marietta, GA7,324 contributions
The market on Sunday is different from the one on Saturday. You find the traditional Farmer's Market. Instead you'll find a market devoted to such things as local artists, including jewelers and musicians, along with things of a cooking nature.

What is the market like on a Tuesday? Bulk of reviews appear to be about Saturday shopping but will the availability of produce etc be the same on a Tuesday in February?

Farmers, sellers are usually out on Saturdays. There are shops or stores that are at Eastern Market year round, and restaurants.

Yes. More veggies, etc. regularly. Christmas market far more holiday-ish and crowded.

Hi,
If you're asking if there are restaurants that serve seafood, the answer is yes.
If you're asking if there are merchants/retail stores at Eastern Market who sell seafood, the answer is yes. They are:
Star Fish Seafood and Al's Fish Seafood & Chicken
If you go on Eastern Markets, you can see and download a map showing where all the various businesses are located. It's a great help.

If you go on Sunday, are there produce and flowers vendors in addition to the vendors selling their “goods”?

When I went, there were just a few produce and I think maybe one flower vendor. I went on a Sunday but I think Saturday might be better.
