By the sounds of it, this city has come leaps and bounds. Everyone said it was unsafe and rubbish, I didn't see any degenerates over the four days I was in the downtown area. Only a couple of beggars too!! It has had a lot of money put into it recently I would say. The locals still ask why on... More

Downtown Detroit has come a long way in a relatively short period of time. The area from the Riverfront north to Midtown is humming with activity, with many new residents, bars and hotels. This is a fun and vibrant place.

I only go to downtown for sporting events or concerts as I am tired of the homeless that not just panhandle but harass you. They will chase/follow you to your car. I don't feel threatened just annoyed. With the cops would do something....

Detroit is a beautiful place. Corktown is a relatively quiet, safe, neighborhood location. Come check it out - you might not wan to leave.

Downtown Detroit was a pleasant surprise. There were lots of people and they were really friendly. I enjoyed the scenery especially the big fist. I highly recommend people to visit for themselves.

I've walked around downtown twice so far this year and I loved both times! It was always fun and interesting! The first time, I parked near the Riverfront and walked along the riverfront, which was nice, went inside the GM building, went inside Guardian Building (didn't see much as it was closed) and Campus Martius! The second time, I parked... More

Stayed in Downtown Detroit over the weekend for a fencing championship at the Cobo Center. Like most Downtowns, Detroit Downtown is pretty dead during the weekend, with a lot of restaurants closed, especially those that cater to the working crowd during the week. This is not a particularly attractive downtown, architecturally that is. Safety in the evening is a concern.

I couldn't find much to do downtown the weekend I visited. Riding the People Mover gave me a view of the areas surrounding where I stayed, and I didn't really want to out and about looking at what I saw.

I'm sure things will be fantastic when it is all done. I grew up in Detroit in the 40s and 50s and it was a beautiful city. I know they are trying to bring the downtown and midtown back but right now it is nearly impossible to drive around - especially in the rain and dark.
