Detroit was hopping the week I was there, with big back-to-back weekend events. Memorial weekend featured the cities annual Electronic Music Festival Movement, with the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix taking place the following weekend. The downtown area was alive with people and I could sense a real energy. The cities beautiful riverfront is perfect for a long walk... More

We took the people mover to the ball park. It was never over crowded. The downtown was much cleaner than our last visit. We felt safe walking the streets

Downtown Detroit has been a pit for many years due to American automobile demise. What a great start to the downtown of Detroit, used to call on broadcast stations and always stayed north or at the airport, that has changed now.

I have been reading about Detroit for years about how the place is run down, doesn't have money, rife with crime, etc, etc. Well that is not the impression I have after walking around for a few hours. The old buildings (Art Deco style) are in great shape and the place really looks good. There were people walking all over... More

I moved to the Detroit area 5 years ago. I've seen an exciting resurgence in this great city since this time. New restaurants, living accommodations, festivals, entertainment venues, etc. Sure we have, like any large city, crime and poverty issues, but it should not deter you from exploring the streets and neighborhoods of this city. In addition to the wonderful... More

We stayed in the downtown area but there wasn't much to see there in terms of shops. Our hotel staff convinced us that it was safe to ride the People Mover at night just for fun and turns out that was good advice.

So much fantastic architecture. A good way to get a quick overview and get a good perspective of the different buildings is to take the People Mover. You can then walk the streets or rent free bikes from Zapster (from outside the Quicken Loan building and other spots) Many buildings have open lobbies to look inside

The city is so clean. Lots of building going on as the city rebuilds. Easy to get around on the People Mover. Glad we cqme to have a look.
