Campus Martius Park is a nice small area in the heart of downtown Detroit. It's lively with people typically eating at the Parc cafe in the park. There's a nice fountain in the middle and a big Civil War statue. There's plenty of seating, too. There was also a grassy area with a screen, but it wasn't in use when we went.

Campus Martius Park is a great place to visit whether during a festival or event or just to take time and have lunch or sit with friends and talk.
We especially like going ice skating there during the winter months. Whether during the day or in the evening the place is decorated in a lively and holiday fashion. The lines to rent ice skates usually move along quickly. It's a wonderful way to enjoy the outdoors and get some exercise at the same time.
From a historical point of view this crossroads has had its share of historical events which include the mustering of Union Troops, having them sign up and ship off to the east during the Civil War. There is a large monument commemorating the end of the Civil War and celebrating the heroes in all the departments of the military. It is quite impressive and should not be missed. It is one of those places that gives an immediate connection to the past while making room for a view of the future.

An awesome sight during the winter with Detroit's Christmas Tree and all the other seasonal lights and the ice skaters. Grab a hot chocolate and sit and enjoy! During the summer, there are concerts and movies to enjoy. And a bar and beach pit! Families, friends, couples will enjoy the scene. Even during the off season, this is a delightful place to grab a chair or a blanket and sit and enjoy...watching the people, listening to music, enjoying a bite to eat, and surveying downtown Detroit's beautiful architecture and the changes over time.

Went for a walk from Michigan Ave People Mover Station to the Park and the tree was still up and people were ice skating. Everyone was having a good time. If you looking to have fun and want to ice skate in the winter, stop on out!

This is a wonderful, though fairly small, park located in downtown near the River. It has plenty of room for sitting, and the trees and plants are a welcome respite. The presence of a bar and a nice restaurant make Campus Martius a fine choice on a nice day.

Our family visited Campus Martius Park just after Christmas. The lights and decorations are beautiful. The giant Christmas tree is really nice. We went ice skating on the rink at the foot of the Christmas tree and enjoyed it. The staff at the Rink were very friendly.
We also rode the bumper cars in the park. We also played the hockey mini-golf they had. It was a lot of fun.
Parking nearby can be a little tricky. We found a garage and there was plenty of space there.

Great activity in the winter months especially for families. The tree is decorated nicely. The skating rink is maintained well with periodic freshning up by the Zamboni. You can do carriage rides to see downtown Detroit. Great opportunity for photos. Skate rental and admission will cost about 10-13 dollars per person. Make sure you don't forget your socks. You might also consider bringing snacks for the kids. There is a snack place on site, but can get pricey. I highly checking out this attraction.

We went when they opened with our two beginner skater kids. We had the ice pretty much to ourselves when we arrived, but after a couple of hours it filled up and wasn't as enjoyable due to most people on the ice being beginners. The on-ice staff was very helpful with our 7 year old and helped him out quite a bit.

Where do I park?
Written December 28, 2018
There is a variety of paid parking, including on the street, surface lots and parking structures. Depending on how long you plan to stay, the street parking would be your cheapest alternative.
It might be fun to check out detroit's newest hotel, the Shinola on Woodward. There's also a Shinola store.
If you're into street art, The nearby Z-Lot and Belt Alley might be of interest. There's murals on each level of the parking structure. If you like architecture, you must check out the Guardian Building, an Art Deco jewel.
Hart Plaza near the riverfront has an interesting fountain and some sculptures.
Well, there a few suggestions.

This is my first time thinking of going. How much is it to enter the park for the beach?
Written August 4, 2018
Everything, except food and possibly skating, is free in Campus Martius Park. If the "beach" is there, please know that it's not an actual beach. More like a lot of sand, with volleyball nets and such. No water anywhere. Still a fun time.

This is my first time thinking of going. How much is it to enter the park for the beach?

The park is free to enter. The beach is artificial, and not adjacent to water. Still a fun time.

Can you pay by credit card for skating? Thanks!

I would park in the Z Parking Garage. It's a few blocks away in another cool part of town. Next to The Belt (alley). Depending what time it is stop at the Skip in the ally for a frozen cocktail. The garage is an experience in of itself with all of its painted murals.

There are no carriage rides in Campus Martius Park. During the week there are multiple food trucks and often have live music during the lunchtime hours. The Q-line now runs past the park as well.
