Beautiful theater
Feb 2020 • Friends
Have been here a few occasions over the years, this time was for Riverdance. Great, lively performance with excellent sound. The theater itself is lovely, seats are comfy. Make sure you ask beforehand if taking pictures during the performance is allowed, sometimes it isn't. We always use the parking garage across the street in case of rain or snow; grab a coffee at the Starbucks next to the theater if you don't want to deal right away with the wave of people trying to leave the theater and garage.

I'm giving this 4 stars because of the restroom situation & the attendants. Having the ladies restroom in the basement is fine for some people who can handle stairs; for others, not so much. The attendants seem to be a mix of friendly & helpful, or angry & borderline rude. We've encountered, and witnessed, both.

Will certainly go back again when we are able. Despite a couple issues, love the Fox Theater.

Beautiful, comfortable, very classy venue! The Fox theatre takes you Back in time when things were simpler. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. We had our tickets upgraded to main floor. Drinks a little pricey but it is what it is!

Could not purchase tickets
Feb 2020
Went to theatre to buy tickets for a show and was u able to as I am Canadian and my credit card was foreign. The manager would not overwrite the card and asked for cash. Unbelievable that the card could not be used.

River Dance
Feb 2020
Came here for RiverDance with my daughter. The venue is BEAUTIFUL! Late comers shouldn't be allowed to come in midway thru a show. It is very distracting and makes it difficult to see while they're trying to shuffle into their seats. The venue was VERY difficult to get to for someone not familiar with the city. I had reserved parking across the street and the main street to the ramp was CLOSED for some reason that I could not discern. The main floor seating is not as sloped as I had anticipated so it wasn't a clear view to the stage from our 8th row seats. While looking at the items for sale in the main entrance we were scolded by security. Maam, you are not allowed to leave then come back in! Well, thanks for that as we didn't leave...we were just walking around the crowd NEAR the entry way but in no way were we ever within 10 feet of the door...but thanks for letting us know. Not sure what brought on this scolding as we had not in fact left the building. Anyway, it was beautiful. RiverDance was fantastic!

Beautiful Theater!
Jan 2020
Just a great venue for all kinds of performances, from Sesame Street Live to concerts! The theater is well-renovated and maintained in all of its art deco/Asian/ Indian glory! There is plenty of parking nearby, both outside lots and a multi-level structure.

ALLOW WiFi access.
Oct 2019 • Family
Attended Sara Bareilles here cause I was denied being able to go closer to home. Needed Uber for the way back. Asked for WiFi. I Was refused WiFi. Not using this theatre as a back up ever again. Then it’s a sh*tty taxi driver - dropping us off at the wrong hotel and causing us to walk back in the dark.
Get it together and allow WiFi. Rhonda the usher
You should be embarrassed for refusing me WiFi.
When I can’t go in MN I think I will use Milwaukee and Chicago and not Detroit (unless the arena is ok with WiFi)

Great venue but latecomers are distracting
Dec 2019 • Family
The theater is wonderful, the shows are excellent. The ushers walking up and down the aisle and letting people in during 30 min after the show started is VERY distracting!! They should NOT allow people in if arrived late. It is disrespectful to the artists and to the public!! I arrived on time, paid full price ticket, yet didn’t get to see all the show because of other people lack of time management!!

Detroit's largest theatre
Dec 2019
Detroit's Fox Theatre dates to the Golden Age of Theatre, when people flocked to see motion pictures before television caught their fancy. Located at 2211 Woodward Avenue, in downtown Detroit, near the Grand Circus Park Historic District, it is one of five spectacular Fox Theatres built in the late 1920s by film pioneer William Fox. Opened in 1928, it is the largest theatre in Detroit with over 5,000 seats and remains the largest surviving movie palace of its era. Lavish, classical, opulent, beautiful. All the words apply. The interior features a blend of Burmese, Chinese, Indian and Persian motifs. There are three levels of seating, the main floor above the orchestra pit, the mezzanine and the balcony. The Fox was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985 and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989. in the 1930s, Shirley Temple made appearances when the theater showed her films. In 1956, Elvis Presley performed on three occasions. In the 1960s, a who's who of Motown recording artists performed at the Fox. In the 1980s and 1990s, Frank Sinatra, Joe Williams, Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson, Al Green, Count Basie, Victor Borge, Sammy Davis Jr. and Liza Minnelli staged concerts. Aretha Franklin performed in 2012. Today, the Fox is celebrated more for its architecture than for its performing arts. The building is 10 stories in height with the front and sides faced with a cream-colored terra cotta. The current marquee with the huge letters F-O-X was installed during the 1987 restoration but is based on the original. Trivia note: During the 1988 restoration, the floor was covered with what at the time was the largest single-piece wool rug ever manufactured. The carpet covered 3,600 square feet of the lobby floor and weighed 3,000 pounds. And the globe chandelier of colored glass that is suspended from a starburst design in the ceiling is 13 feet in diameter and weighs 2,000 pounds and contains 1,200 pieces of glass. Cleaning aside, the Fox is a wonder to behold.
