You can see the line of cars lining up for the tunnel to Canada (a lot of cars), the river, the RenCen, and lots of people approaching the riverwalk. There was a great festival in the park as we walked by, plenty of room for a music stage and many vendors. I didn't go in, but it looked like a good party. On Monday, pretty quiet but a nice overlook of the entrance to the riverwalk.

Hart Plaza is a pretty big square just by the Detroit Riverwalk.
It offers great downtown and river views. Also there're several great monuments around it - to Ford, Cadillac and the magnificent Underground railroad sculpture.

A nice plaza on the river with various sculpture and monuments. Very nice along the river with a view of Canada on a nice day. There is a very nice walkway along the river that will be extended over the years.

A few times a year I find myself in Detroit for work. I stay a few hundred feet from this park, and walk my around the financial district daily. This park seems like fun (lots of people & families during the day), and I love to wander it at night. I know wandering along in Detroit at night seems like a recipe for disaster, but it's the financial district, so it's pretty safe. I like to wander the park, soak in the culture, and enjoy the view of the Detroit river at night.

Hart Plaza is located near the Detroit River. The views are nice, and it frequently hosts festivals and other public events. While it is not especially well designed, the setting alone makes it worth a visit.

This is a good example of the negative consequences of taking out green space in a city and replacing it with cement. No one wants to congregate there! Nice view of the river and Canada, but that's not enough to overcome the sorrow of a big, ugly concrete plaza. Skip it.

The large broken circle of the Transcending Monument towers over Hart Plaza. The monument is dedicated to the labor movement in Michigan.
The two steel arcs, designed by David Bar stretch 63 feet into up and weigh 30 tons! The sculpture provides a great framing device for some of the iconic Detroit buildings in the area.

As luck would have it - was at the Hart Plaza to catch the Detroit Jazz Festival - some good big band mixing and Pat Metheney show off and across the road interspersed with some street food off the trucks on a warm, sunny, rainy day!
Amazing!!!

Nice to see, but way to bad that the fountain wasn't working when I was there. Was a very nice day when I did Detroit.

The fountain is no longer working and the place is a mess....it's too bad, because this is the first glimpse a lot of people get of Detroit and it looks horrible.

Hello. This was answered a while ago by tev9999 and it should still apply. "You might want to park in the Greektown Casino garage. Parking is free if you go in the casino to validate your ticket. Plenty of good restaurants right by the casino. You can then walk south on Beaubien to the Ren Cen, which is connected to Hart Plaza by the river walk. There are a few restaurants on Beaubien including Niki's Pizza, Loco's (Mexican), the Detroiter Bar (good burgers) and Tom's Oyster Bar (seafood).
From Hart Plaza, if you don't want to keep walking, hop on the people mover in the financial district and it will take you right back to the casino."
If you want to keep walking, head north on Woodward up to Campus Martius. From there you can find a great Coney Dog just to the west at Lafayette Coney Island (on Lafayette). If you still have time you can keep heading north on Woodward to the Stadium area with the Fox Theater, Hockeytown Cafe, Cheli's Chili and several other places. If you want to head back to Greektown from Campus Martius, bear northeast on Monroe. Stop at the Old Shillelagh for a Guinness, and you are right back at the casino.
