American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie...

American Jewelry and Loan American Jewelry and Loan is owned by Leslie "Les" Gold, the son of a pawnbroker who once owned Sam's Loans, a now-defunct pawnshop on Michigan Avenue in Detroit. Les first opened American Jewelry at the Green Eight Shopping Center on 8 Mile Road in Oak Park in 1978, moving to its present location in 1993.The Gold family and the daily operations of the store are the subject of the truTV reality show 'Hardcore Pawn'. This flagship show has broken numerous audience records and recently celebrated its 100th episode. Visitors are often surprised to learn that the store still operates as a full-service pawn shop and that members of the Gold family are still heavily involved in the daily operations in the store despite their busy filming and appearance schedules.

Got to see Hardcore Pawn!

Fun sight to see but you drive right past it unless you have it in your GPS and it's in a busy area so don't try to do a Uturn. Open very limited hours.

Exactly as it looks and seems on the TV ( without the screaming customers etc ), anyone a little worried after watching the show should have no worries about visiting. We were lucky enough to spot Les Gold and he happily posed for photos, he was great and as fans of the show this was one of the real highlights... More

We enjoyed the TV show Hardcore Pawn, so when we were in the area we wanted to stop by and see the pawn shop in person. We were also hoping to meet Les Gold (owner and star of the show), but knew that it might be a long shot. We went on a Sat. morning and were very pleased that... More

If you are a fan of the tv show, you will love seeing this store in person. Les was available for selfies and the selection of goods they have taken in is amazing!

My wife and I went to American Jewelry and Loan today. Les made an offer on some gold jewelry that my wife hadn't worn for quite some time. The offer was very generous. We then purchased a beautiful ring that she is wearing. Les is a down to earth guy. Craig was very patient helping us. We took a picture... More

We just stopped in while visiting from Florida as my wife was curious after watching the tv show. They had a couple cardboard figures of Les and Seth so my wife got a couple photos. The place was a typical pawnshop, albeit bigger than most. They had lots of items available although we weren't shopping or dealing.

Being in Detroit, you have to go and see this place. Having watched the programme on TV, we were surprised to see how small it was. Everything is however, just like you see it on TV. We did not see the owners, but did see a lot of the staff that come on the show. We had a quick look... More

Had to see this place after watching it on TV. Didn't get to see any of the owners but had a chat with one of the retail assistants we recognised. Everybody calm in the shop not like on TV.

It's always interesting to see TV stuff in the real world. Getting there was easy enough from downtown on the 16 - Dexter bus. The driver said he'd tell us when to get off but he forgot so at the end of the run he turned the bus around and personally took us back - what a legend! We were... More

Everyone is just there doing their jobs and its just a normal day for them but... More
