If you are interested in the history of Detroit and the amazing renaissance of this incredible city, you absolutely must walk around the city, taking the tour with Dildora. She is an immigrant from Uzbekistan who fell in love with the city, has studied it in depth, has become an expert in both its history and the changes that are occurring right now on practically a daily basis, and is something of an evangelist for the city. I live in Chicago, which I love, but, honestly, I was wondering whether I should move to Detroit in my retirement years before the tour was over! With Dildora, my sister and I went inside beautifully restored buildings, through alleys transformed into art-laden, vibrant hot spots for young and creative Detroiters, sat in sunlit plazas, walked the riverfront, gawked and photographed and were amazed at the transformation of Detroit. Dildora offers a wealth of information and a contagious enthusiasm about this wonderful city ā the first city in the US named a UNESCO Creative City of Design (a fact we learned from Dildora) in 2015. Much that we saw is a blend of the old and the new, with the furniture and the art in the revitalized buildings having been made by this new generation of Detroiters. At the end of the tour, we were scrounging in our purses (not finding much, alas) to find cash to give Dildora because we felt the tour was worth so much more than she had charged. DO NOT MISS touring with Dildora if you really want the opportunity to be wowed by the City of Detroit!
