Small little Mexican town with BIG choices. Multiple restaurants to choose from - all great. Great experience, wonderful food, great prices for the amount of food provided. Parking is available.

Wow I love Mexicantown. I love Evies Tamales... get their chicken mole. Their is a really cool gift shop that is a bit pricey but they have high-quality hand made products and it's fun to walk around. If you go to one of their bars...More

This is the premier neighborhood to go to a Mexican restaurant. There are at least three here that never disappoint! The neighborhood will be close to the new International Gordie Howe Bridge, if it ever gets built.

Had a great time here !! The fresh burritos were the best ever !! Then we came home and made fajitas with the fresh meat and veggies and they were delicious!! I couldn’t believe the variety of EVERYTHING!! Prices were reasonable also.

Being raised in Southern California, this place is kind of an anomaly to me. I grew up on cali-mex. This, is not that. But it is a bastion of mexican culture and heritage, largely surrounded by folks that don't know the difference. Add to that...More

Suburban Detroit Natives have been flocking to Mexicantown for years to get delish Mexican food just outside of the city proper. As neighboring Corktown starts to expand and prosper, Mexican town has also gotten a little bit busier than in previous years.

It's old and quaint and maybe in it's heyday it was a good place to visit. Today, not so much. There are many more interesting places to visit so this should not be on the top of your list for the Detroit area.

I would try Whole Foods Organic Store in Troy on 15 mile and livernois. They usually carry everything.

What is the best place to eat at in Greektown? Is Mexicantown any good?

What kind of food are you fond of? If you love Mexican food and that is your first choice then I would suggest heading to Mexicantown. If you’re looking for something else then Greektown has more than a few options. There is Nikki’s that has good pizza and Greek Salad, Mosaic is higher end and has a little bit of everything, Fishbones had steaks, seafood and Sushi. You have Pegasus and Golden Fleece specialize in tasty Greek Food, Red Smoke off BBQ, Pizzapoplis specializes in Chicago...More

SW Detroit / Mexicantown (11 Replies)
We will be visiting Detroit next month and thinking about booking an airbnb studio in the SW/Mexicantown area. It looks like it is on or near N Rademacher St. and gets very good reviews. The owner and guests who have left reviews make it clear that it is a blue collar neighborhood and as one reviewer has said "don't expect all well-kept homes in the area." That doesn't bother us. In fact, we like that diversity if the neighborhood has a personality and is relatively safe and clean. And cities...More

Is there a particular reason you're considering staying in SW Detroit? Personally, I would prefer to stay Downtown Detroit or Dearborn, especially if you plan to sightsee in those two areas. There will not be much for you to see and / or do in the area you described, other than visit some of the Mexicantown bakeries and restaurants.
