Traveled from Indy to Dearborn to take a glass blowing class at The Glass Academy. Stayed at The Henry and will NEVER stay there again but the glass class made up for the tough overnight experience. This family owned and run shop truly cares about their customers. Our class was an experience of a life time and worth every penny!! We’ll definitely make the trip again.

What a great place to visit. Friendly staff, fascinating glassblowing process and truly a fun afternoon. You can call ahead and sign up for a short glassblowing experience or just drop in for a short tour of the facility. The Glass Academy has been in operation for 25 years and the people that operate the facility are truly talented and extremely nice. You can sign up for a 2 to 3 hour class or a whole series of classes. This experience gives you a whole different appreciation of glassblowing and workmanship.

Managed to find some gifts for others and one for me! Loved all the items, no demonstrations today as they were getting ready for an event.

I received a gift certificate for 2 as a Mothers Day gift. My sister and I love being creative and this filled the bill. We were taken on a tour of the studio, then given a lesson. In the class we each made a Percola Reed. The staff was fun, patient, and very informative. Can't wait to pick my creation up.

I've been there on a number of occasions. Today I checked their website for the hours (W-F 11-7, Sat. 11-4), and arrived about 6:30 P.M. I looked around for about 10 minutes and then a young woman came up to me and said it wasn't open, but I could buy a "preview" ticket for Thursday or Saturday - whatever that is. I told her that it wasn't mentioned on the website that it was closed today (Wednesday). Furthermore, the neon OPEN sign was lit at the front entrance! She said there was a sign posted on the door. I told her that I could not see a sign on the door and left in disgust. As I got outside (which is poorly lit at night), I could see a sheet of paper on the door. The ONLY way I could have read it was if I carried a flashlight with me and was looking for a sign! That is the second time I have gone there where they have pulled this stunt of changing hours and not having it posted on their website. The few times I've been there around Halloween or Christmas for Saturday sales, the lines have been extremely long. This place is run by people who should be selling their wares at art fairs - not attempting to run a storefront business. Incompetent is the best word to describe the way they run the business.

My husband & I and my parents came to Dearborn for the Ford “stuff” and my mom found Glass Academy’s “classes” searching for things to do. My mother & I booked our spots for the Campfire Class in advance (2 months in advance bc we were coming from out of town) and glad we did! A week after booking for our class it was sold out. By the way, we left the men at the hotel to do their thing but thought while at the class: if there was a shot glass class, my husband would have enjoyed it!

My mother & I were in a fairly large class and were first told what we were going to do, shown what we were going to do and then got to DO what we were there to do—make glass paperweights! It was so much fun & informational.

Our instructor was Logan and he was awesome. He listened to what we wanted and helped make what we envisioned. Really though, everyone there was nice and helpful!

Also: Some people wanted to blow glass “bubbles” (but then they are broken), make “D” glass medallions for take-home or glass flowers for take-home—need to check their website out: they make all kinds of cool things!

HUGE NOTE: if you make a glass “take-home” product, you CANNOT take it home that day! It had to cool down in a special oven for at least a day or two before you can pick it up! But you can price and make arrangements to have it shipped to you after cooling down.

Pictures attached: Logan showing us what to do & Batch the shop cat (she’s super friendly too).

All too often I feel bored of the same old routine. This broke the mold! Very unique space to go on a date or corp event. Great for just something different to do and have an awesome one of a kind glass keepsake! My girlfriend and I loved it!

Hidden on a side street, in an industrial area, finding the Academy is a real adventure (and I know the area!). Great items to purchase, classes to take and an all-over great educational experience.

Ha ha ha! I like that! We are an adventure!! We changed the course of our business plan when the financial crisis hit and re-definded who we are. Opening our studio to the public allows us to meet all kinds of great people and I love that we send them on an adventure to find us! Be sure to visit during our upcoming Pumpkin festival's in October.....you can show all your friends the hidden gem we really are!!

I've been there for their coffee nights and the "cold beer hot glass" night. Both nights were amazing. The staff are friendly and so talented. I loved watching the glasses being made. It's amazing what these people can do.
Perfect place for a date night or girls night out. The "Coffee night" that they put on, would be fun for all ages.
