About
Established in 1994, Keweenaw Adventure Company (KAC) is a guide and outfitter specializing in Lake Superior sea kayak adventures and mountain biking on Copper Harbor's internationally recognized trail system. With over twenty-five years' experience and an excellent safety record, we provide state-of-the-art rental equipment, essential goods and exceptional customer service. We offer a variety of guided day trips, as well as multi-day kayak tours on Isle Royale National Park and along the Keweenaw Water Trail. We have lodging available and have a small retail shop where we host a supply of essential bike parts and kayak accessories, bicycle, canoe & SUP rentals, bicycle service (mechanics), interpretive guided eco-hikes and a shuttle service, too. More than just a shop, we have also built our reputation as advocates, trail builders, community organizers and folks who like to have a good time.

We booked a father/son trip to the Keweenaw and the MTB shuttle service was an unbelievably great buy to round out the experience! We were able to hit close to 30 miles of trails and had a total blast doing it. The shuttle drivers were friendly, knowledgeable, and super down to earth. We'll definitely return for the service 10/10!!

Six of us spent a week in the Copper Harbor area and based several of our activities around Keweenaw Adventure Company's services. Everyone was fantastic to work with and a lot of fun. The highlight was the sunset kayaking tour. I know KAC doesn't control the weather, but they certainly know how to take advantage of a perfect evening and provide an unforgettable kayaking experience, complete with river otters.

This was the 4th time that we have used Keweenaw Adventure Company since 2013. We had our high school church youth group (10 people) for our sunset kayaking adventure. Our guides, Chris and Eli, did a great job with instructions and making sure everyone was comfortable being in the kayak before venturing out. Chris and Eli were great guides! They made sure everything went smoothly and safely and spent time talking with everyone and sharing stories about the history of Copper Harbor. Can’t wait for our next adventure!!

The KAC crew made our first biking experience at Copper truly memorable. They were professional and full of advice from the first interaction, including with bike rentals.
Our first drive up to the Brockway Mtn summit proved that without the KAC shuttle, we would have been able to do maybe one ride down the mountain. Instead, we had 5-6 great trips down several trails, and could have squeezed in more if not for a torrential downpour that required a full gear change.
My crew from downstate (Team Gears & Beers) highly recommend KAC for any of their services!

Just completed a 5 day kayak trip and had the most amazing time! I had considered hiking the island but so glad we did the kayaks. You don't have to carry the supplies on your back and hike (really hard on the knees and easy to trip on the trail), way easier and much more enjoyable to kayak them in. Jake was our guide and we could not have asked for a better one! I always felt very safe and confident he was prepared for anything. He made sure we had plenty of time on the water, hiking Isle Royale, always taking time to answer our questions and we learned so much from him. He also made all of our meals and cleaned everything up after. Honestly one of the best trips ever! Highly recommend!!

I went on a five day paddle to Isle Royale with Keweenaw Adventure Co. Jake was our guide and he was fantastic. Paddling and hiking were beautiful but Jake added to the experience by showing us interesting plants, animals, and rocks. Walking through the woods our small group of five, Jake would have us try dozens of different native plants as if we had to survive in the wild. Some tasty. He was like a rare teacher you just loved in school because they were just so entertaining. He was a good cook too. We even found that morning evidence of a wolf hunt on a moose calf that had failed. A story written in the trail. Hope to explore with him again.

I did the Isle Royale 3 day/4 night kayaking tour in August. The trip was fantastic and our guide Jake was terrific. His knowledge of the island and kayaking in general was exceptional. Jake’s pre-trip safety course was very thorough and I felt confident and comfortable paddling on the big lake. Keweenaw Adventures handled all the trip details including shuttling my vehicle to and from the launch at the Queen. I can’t recommend this trip and company enough!

My husband and I did the 2.5 hr mountain biking tour with Jake and half day sea kayaking tour with Joey. Both of the guides were awesome and so was the adventure company! The company worked with us and asked us questions to make sure the tour fit our physical activity level and accommodated all of our wants/needs/expectations for the tours. They were able to move our kayak tour up one day in order to take advantage of the best weather day that week which was super appreciated! Jake gave the perfect mountain biking tour for us first timers, he showed us the ropes, gave pointers, and challenged us (within reason)! Joey was very chill and accommodating and was super knowledgeable about all things kayaking and Lake Superior! We loved sharing our vacation with both of these locals who obviously love what they do and love living up in the yoop. Great photographers too ;)

There aren't enough positive adjectives to express how awsome the Keweenaw Adventure Company (KAC) staff is. My son & I were greatly impressed with the professionalism and attention to every detail of our 5 day trip to kayak on Lake Surerior at Isle Royale. Even the food they provided was over the top. Not one freeze dried/dehydrated offering. I highly recommend the KAC for your next adventure.

I booked a kayak tour for a larger group, and Keweenaw Adventure Company was so great about finding a day and time that worked for us. Even after a couple bailed out, we were still given the group discount. Thank you so much for the flexibility on that, Shelby!
Checkin was easy, last minute waivers were signed at the shop, which is small but easy to navigate. When we arrived at our launch site that morning, Lena & Tyler were cheerful and thorough about explaining safety measures, from Covid precautions to avoiding tipping over. I was pleasantly surprised at the impromptu history & geology lessons included with the tour. 10 out of 10.

Can my 2 year old sit on my lap in the kayak?

Hello there! Thanks for contacting us and for your interest in our adventures. We do have recreational sit-on-top kayaks, for use on inland lakes only, on which it would be safe to have a toddler accompany you -- as long as they are wearing a proper PFD (which we do provide with the rentals). If you are inquiring about sea kayaking on Lake Superior, however, then such a scenario would not be safe.

I am worried about the 'getting into the kayak' from the water requirement. I have Kayaked many times, but have never had to do this. I am in reasonable shape - I am a runner, but am over 60. What exactly is the requirement for this and how can I practice before our trip. My significant other is telling me that I won't be able to go if I cannot do this.
