From the top of the mountain you can say a great view of lake superior. There is an area at the top of the mountain that you can pull off and see in all directions. Take the drive on a clear day.Visited August 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten March 11, 2024
- Little Homeschool Blessings447 contributionsLovely overlook and views down to Copper HarborThis is a 9 ½ mile road that runs from Eagle Harbor to Copper Harbor. We recommend starting in Copper Harbor and making your way straight to the main overlook at the top of the road. Then make your way back down to Copper Harbor again. On your way back down, be sure to stop at the golf course lookout (there are two mountain bike trails here: On the Edge and The Flow) and the lookout over Copper Harbor. There were no folks on bikes and the trail was not marked as mountain biking only, so our family decided to walk On the Edge trail until where it leads up to the road and walk back to the car from there. This is a beautiful trail. We found some lovely wildflowers to photograph and a snake at the side of the trail. If you are coming from the Eagle Harbor area, we’d recommend taking M-26 into Copper Harbor for picturesque ocean views and still head up from Copper Harbor. There is little to no signal on the road.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 27, 2024
- DSandJKChicago, Illinois165 contributionsAwesome cycling challenge with great viewsAt least for us Midwestern flatlanders, riding up (especially the steeper east side) of BMD is a rewarding challenge. All the better if you do both sides with some loops on the quiet roads leading to it. Only frustration is the very poor condition of the pavement, which ribs you of one of the rewards of going up (i.e., bombing down!). Great restaurants, bars, and a pop-up brewery in Copper Harbor for post-ride. Several county parks to park the car at if not riding to/from. Be prepared for the biting black flies though!Visited September 2024Traveled soloWritten September 2, 2024

We drove once during the day and stopped at all the scenic overlooks. We also went back to the high point to watch the sunset (along with about 30 other people) and we were not disappointed. Absolutely stunning. Do not miss this drive, if you're in Copper Harbor.

Brockway is a wonderfully scenic drive, especially for fall color. We drove south on M-26 along the western coast (great views of Lake Superior) and then back up on Brockway, which takes you up pretty high so you get great views looking down to the east. Colors were amazing even on a cold, cloudy, and very windy day. The road is rough in places, but you don't take Brockway if you're in a hurry anyway. Highly recommend.

We took a ride up on Brockway Mountain drive, when we were recently there. Definitely make sure you have good brakes, as you will need them. There are a few great photo stops along the way. Also at the top there is some history boards with some good information on it. You have to look around as you can see across the entire area, from lakeside to lakeside of Lake Superior. Take your time and savor the drive and enjoy it. Enjoy Snowman : O )

Don’t miss this this drive when you visit! The drive up this small mountain is worth the slightly rough road. You can see freighters that look like a tiny boat in this Great Lake! Being at the tip of the Keweenaw peninsula affords you views of the the entire trip you just took to get there! It was raining and windy and still well worth it. I was here about 10 years ago before they torte down the gift shop :( and it still did not disappoint.

Brockway Mountain Road is an exhilarating ride to the very top of the Keweenaw Peninsula. Well worth the occasional roadway bumps.
The view from the summit is nothing short of amazing with Lake Superior in all is azure splendor stretching beyond the horizon on one side and an undulating sea of trees in fall's green, gold, and orange on the other.
There are several pull-offs along the road allowing for different vantage points for the perfect photograph. The best pulloff is at the hairpin turn near the Copper Harbor entrance. That view of Lake Superior, Lake Fannie Hoe, Copper Harbor and its famous light, will linger in your memory for a lifetime.

Easily accessible with good view to see Copper Harbor village and lake Superior from the top from the view point. Make sure that you don't stop there and drive a bit more to see hills and mountains from the roadside stops. Especially a must do with fall color change and it came really early to this beautiful upper Peninsula of Michigan.
We were there at the last week of September just in time to see peak color before they were quickly blown away off the trees by brutal rain x 4 days, followed by first snow on Oct 2. On the way to Copper Harbor, we also has a long drive on a tiny road with all different color. Way better than "overrated" tunnel of tree from lower Peninsula.

We enjoyed the scenic drive along the Brockway Mountain Drive. We were there in July and the view was lovely, with the sun sparkling on the bays and all the trees. I imagine in the fall it is breathtaking. I appreciated the scenic turnouts that allowed us to pull over and view and take photos of the area. I really enjoyed the northernmost turnout that overlooked Copper Harbor and Lake Fanny Hooe. It would be great if there was a restaurant at the largest turn out--what a great view!

The drive is beautiful (the road is narrow and a little bumpy). So many places to stop and get out, but the best one is at the very top. It is not only gorgeous, but it is completely absent of any non-nature noise. We sat on the stone blocks for probably 20 minutes just enjoying the peace and quiet (and the view). But the whole drive is just excellent.
Also, the pit toilets were excellent because they are open air (you kind of walk through a mini-maze to get to the toilet for privacy) so there isn't the horrible smell.

A wonderful drive for a sunset view over the Keweenaw Pennisula and beautiful Lake Superior. Would be a great mountain bike ride, albeit steep and sometimes hilly. Make sure your car is equipped to handle steep inclines and declines. Although it is is Michigan and not technically mountainous, it is a mountain-like drive, with sudden curves, dips, inclines, etc. Expect to meet traffic too.
Many pull outs along the way to view the land and wait for the spectacular view at the end of Lake Superior! Go up at dusk and watch the sunset, it seems to go on forever! Beauty is stunning and calming.

I highly doubt it. The road itself is not in the best condition and is definitely a secondary road. I have not been there in winter, though. I would suggest contacting Michigan DOT or the tourist information service in Copper Harbor to confirm.

I do not have an ATV, so am not intimately familiar with the laws. I did look in Michigan off road handbook.
The road has no good shoulder, so one would have to drive on the roadway, and there are no signs at the entrance to the road regarding ATVs.
As I read the law, it says you can drive your ATV on the roadway only if it is licensed for on-road use, or if the local government allows it. Here is what the link says:
Prohibited ORV Operation on Other Lands
■ Roads, streets, and highways maintained for year-round
automobile travel are closed to ORV operation, including
the shoulder and the right-of-way. (That is, the entire
width between boundary lines of public ways maintained
for vehicular travel is closed to ORVs.) However, ORVs
registered as motor vehicles by the Secretary of State may be
operated on the roadway.
■ ORVs may be operated on a roadway in accordance with a
locally enacted ordinance. The ORV rider is responsible for
contacting the local authorities to find out which roadways
are open to ORV use.
TripAdvisor will not let me post a link, but if you Google offroad-ed/assets/pdf/handbook, you might find it.

Planning a fall trip up north. I have 2 options: north shore, Minnesota or upper peninsula, Michigan.
Can anyone tell me how the fall colours are around this time on this drive? Any specific suggestions for sightseeing?
Travelling dates are 6-7th October,2017.
Written October 3, 2017
I’m pretty sure the fall colors are done up there. I love 6 hours south and we are at peek right now. I’m sure some trees will still be pretty though! Enjoy your trip! Lake Superior has never disappointed me, no matter where on the lake you go!

Looking for a Fall Color Report from this location. In many places the trees are turning early due to the recent crisp air temps. I am supposed to go up there Oct. 19th but I may reconsider and head south if the colors have arrived too early. Thanks!! Looking forward to any responses from people who have been there this week.

We were up there in mid August. I live about 4 hours south, and I can tell you we are already raking leaves here. I would think by mid October the leaves up there will be long gone. Not to mention the cold air will surely have set in by then, and might even be getting bits of snow. Try going mid September any given year!

I'm wondering whether this Brockway Mountain Drive is the same as the Copper Country Trail number 77 of the National Scenic Byways Program?
Written June 16, 2015
No it is not the same trail system. I just did a search online and Brockway Mountain Drive goes off of Hwy 26 and heads inland. Where Hwy 26 goes along the lake shore.

Hello,
I was wondering if the road is paved or not?
Thank you
Written March 27, 2015
Yes it is. But like Bison said it is beat up in some spots. But the view is worth the drive.
