My family and I go at least once a year to this orchard to pick up some apple. Yesterday was not a good day.
We wanted to get some cider and Donuts and then pick up some apples.
So we were waiting in line to buy our merchandises.
Their price listed :
$6 1/2 gallon
$9 1 gallon
Since we are a big family we wanted to buy one gallon. However, the machine somehow was broken and they didn't have any more 1 gallon bottles. So I asked politely, since your machine doesn't work anymore if we can have 2 half gallons for $9 according to the sign. Right? They say "No".
But I said that you are advertising $9 for a gallon. The fact that the machine does not work has nothing to do for me trying to buy 1 gallon of cider. With a big smile I have been told that I had to buy two half gallons for $12. Long story short, we pay $30 total for the donuts and the ciders. I felt that they do not have to spread the cost on their customers when something doesn't work. Imagine $3 times how many people visited the cider mill yesterday... I am not impressed with their customers services.
So my family and I went to pick up apples. We wanted the kids to have fun. We only wanted the special bag for $30. We have been told that each family member MUST have a bag. I was kind of puzzled by the situation, but I wanted my kids to have fun. Basically you have to buy a bag for each person in your group. We ended to pay $42 to pick apples up. We just wanted to buy the $30 special and ended up paying $12 more than expected.
We ended to pay in total $72 dollars for some donuts, apples and ciders. I could have gotten a better deal on any local market. I won't forget this experience ever.
I understand that COV-19 has been affecting a lot of people and businesses. But I do not think that this is a reason to take advantage of your customers. Next year, if I go I will go by myself and get the specials that way I wouldn't only have to pay for the extra $12 and use the money to buy something else. I don't like what happened yesterday, but I have the feeling that I have been milked by Long Family Orchard

After spending $60 on apple, donuts, and cider and then $17/per ticket for my husband and our three children to go into the kids area. I simply asked the owner if I could run in to grab my husband and kids to come out to take a picture with my three nieces, infant great nephew, my sister, her husband and my parents (all who purchased cider, donuts, and other baked goods; collectively we spent HUNDREDS of dollars).
I was denied the ability to enter the kid area to get my family because I did not have a wristband. Nor did they offer to go grab my husband. Instead the owner was rude, ungrateful, offered no appreciation for our business, or exception to help us make our family photo possible.
I will absolutely be sharing the greed and disgraceful customer service with every single person I know in the Oakland County area because as a “family” business that promotes a family experience; it’s obvious that all that man cares about is money.
Too many other well run orchards that offer a real orchard experience for far less money.
I will N E V E R spend $1 here again.
I don’t support greed.
I don’t support condescending men with no customer service.
I don’t support businesses that nickel and dime during hard economic times.
I don’t support businesses that don’t do right by their customer.

I used to come here every year, but after this year I will NOT be back. The cider and donuts are delicious, but very over priced. They also started charging you for paper cups (after you already buy extremely expensive cider I think that cheap cups should be included). They also don't even provide napkins. Just horrible!! How expensive can providing napkins/cups be?!?!

Oct 2015 • Family
This began as a family trip for our kids, but ended in sour moods and empty wallets. We began with apple picking, but even this has changed from last year. A band new cross walk and stop light were added along with a brand new wood platform and giant fence that circles the entire apple field.
To go along with the new fence and cross walk are new policies! EVERYONE who goes into the orchard MUST have thier OWN bag (emphasis mine). Now in years past I've bought the largest bag they had, on this visit I only got the very smallest bag I could buy (one each for my family of 4), then you must wait for a single tractor to drive you 100 feet into the orchard before you can start picking your apples (with everything gated off, it makes it impossible to walk back yourself). After the less than 2 minute ride the tractor disappears and does not reappear for another 30+ minutes (where is it during this time? your guess is as good as mine).
By this time my family and I have waited almost 2 hours to get onto the tractor (and another half hour trying to find apples among the half rotted orchard), I didn't want to wait in the middle of the apple orchard for a tractor that may never come, so we walked back. Of course there are no signs directing you to a pedestrian exit, in fact I could find no such thing! The only way out of the orchard is to climb back on the platform (no stairs! yay!).
I had to help my wife and two small children up onto the platform (there was no attendant there to help in any way), then on out way back to the cross walk one of the two girls in the booth selling the overpriced plastic bags comes running up to us.
"I have to check your bags."
For what? Do you think I'm smuggling out your apple trees in these ting little bags? did you bury gold in the orchard?
So like the receipt checkers at your local supermarket she drags the pen over a corner of my wife's apple bag without even looking at it. Now, I sucked up being over charged for bags, and being forced to buy bags for my entire family; but being treated like I'm a criminal is the absolute last straw. We left the orchard, and then had to wait in another half hour + line just to get the warm doughnuts and some apple butter (I skipped the cider after seeing how high the prices were this year).
That is the last time I will ever visit Long's Orchard.
In years past we have shelled out the $10+ a head for our kids to into the playground/corn maze/pumpkin picking tractor (the pumpkins are purchased separately, even if you pick them yourself), but with everything else that happened this year I could not allow myself to buy "admission" tickets.

This used to be a very nice local orchard where you could enjoy the animals and picking out a pumpkin. It has now become very commercialized and over priced. You are charge for everything. Even to just let your young child pet an animal.

Went there to buy donuts. They were very good BUT I wanted half a dozen donuts split into 2 bags because they were going to 2 different places. NOPE "We don't do that". They can't give out extra bags. I ended up having to pay more just so I could get a bag? You will see that 99% of complaints are about LONGS nickel and diming EVERYTHING. Very sad that this once fun, casual orchard has turned into what seems a corporation who is taking the public for everything they have. Didn't know about the no napkins and no free cups. That is just TERRIBLE and they should be ashamed of themselves!!!

The cider and donuts are average however, be prepared to pay high prices and also be ready to pay for cups after already paying the high prices for cider and donuts. Cash is the only form of payment accepted however they do advertise that the CVS up the road offers an ATM. Bring your own napkins also as they do not provide those either. Family fun area is an extra cost and if you want to pick apples everyone in your group will have to buy one of their bags.

By far the best hot fresh doughnuts I have tried out of all the Michigan cider mills!. Staff very warm and friendly. Honey Crisp cold cider is my favorite. Cider slushies are great too with the addition of the soft serve ice cream. Great place to check out.

Everything about this place is just ok. Nothing special. Service is acceptable but not friendly. Cider and donuts were good.
