About
Built in 1882, Tibbits Opera House features an exquisite, award-winning, French Second Empire exterior. It is among the oldest theatres in Michigan. Rich in history and ambiance, the theatre offers nearly perfect acoustics, an intimate 500-seat setting, and great entertainment year round. Shows vary from professional Summer Theatre, family shows, and an Entertainment Series of professional touring performers to community events, plays, musicals, concerts and variety shows. The building houses a permanent 19th century art collection and a unique community mural of "American Gothic." An art gallery exhibits shows by regional artists. Tours are available by appointment.

Saw a great show put on by the Tibbits Company during these vivid times. They performed at a place called the Ponds and the outdoor venue provided a safe environment. Show very professional and very good. Highly recommend any time for good summer stock!

Located in Coldwater, MI, the Tibbits Opera House has been lovingly restored to its original glory and splendor. During the summer months, off Broadway plays and musicals are performed by actors, mainly from New York and some talented locals thespians. During the winter months Community Theater, showcases area actors and musicians. The Tibbits Opera House is also the backdrop for school plays and concerts, travelogues, community holiday combined church services, local pageants and also for weddings. In the beautiful basement is an Art Gallery and a place for receptions. Be sure reserve your tickets for the next production at Tibbits Opera House!

Wonderful old restored historic theatre. It is smaller than I am used to but that must be what was expected over 100 years ago. Usually, the offering is a musical. Nice sound.

This is a true gem in this small town. Have had season tickets to the summer series for last several years and never disappointed. Recent production of Footloose was no exception and our group thoroughly enjoyed it.

How fortunate Coldwater is to have this historic treasure. Young people have a place to try their hand at acting and behind the scenes support. Performances are held throughout the year for all ages, everything from school programs to plays to 1960s music.

I just saw the middle school/high school play "The Little Mermaid" at Tibbits a couple weeks ago. They are restoring the building and it's just lovely. I can't wait to see it finished. The play was excellent! Nice to see such talent in our community, and in a lovely setting.

Hello Carolyn,
So sorry that you had a poor reaction to our local treasure four years ago. Did you let them know about the problems? Or contact Tibbits in advance to inquire about the particulars of the theater, i.e. space, amenities, etc.? Tibbits has regularly accommodated bus loads of theater goers with very little or no problems, so sad that your experience was poor. Why not come again and give Tibbits another chance? It takes a serious amount of funds and time to raise them, to renovate old buildings and our community has spent a great deal of time and effort to do just that. The facade of the building has been fully restored and it is magnificent, you should see it, we are very proud of the renewed appearance! The interior is and seemingly always will be, a loving work in progress. The lobby granted, is not the biggest, but it has been a bit enlarged, while at the same time, maintaining the original appearance of the lobby, from when Tibbits was built. Have you seen the lower level? It is beautiful and the site of many meetings, receptions and all sorts of community functions. There is also an Art Gallary, which often features very talented local artisans. The actual history of Tibbits is truly interesting! The expense of these projects is immense and we are a comparatively small town (with lots of pride), but we will persevere in improving, updating and maintaining our beloved Tibbits Opera House. Please come and see Tibbits again!
