Wife and I had our first visit to the venerable Purple Rose. We knew of the reputation and history of the theater and expected a quality production. But face it, Chelsea is a small town far outside the suburbs - the most we expected was high quality community theater. What we got, though, was an extremely high quality production the calibre of an off-Broadway show. The current production is the play, "Never Not Once". It is a surprisingly tightly woven story that touches on many current controversial topics.

The play was definitely a daring selection considering the venue and location. But it is undeniably a well told tale that was completely engaging from start to finish. I won't ruin the story by sharing the plot line, but will divulge that the acting and production quality were award winning. I will definitely be back to see what other great productions this theater and its players can come up with next. If you haven't been there yet for "Never Not Once", get some tissues and head to Chelsea!

Great play with a great story line that pulls at every emotion! Cast was awesome!! Very comfortable seats, theatre is very intimate and not a bad seat in the place.
All employees that I encountered were very nice and helpful. Will be going back again!
I not only recommend the theatre, but also this play.

I recently saw a play named God of Carnage at the Purple Rose. This is my formal review of the play. The actors brought life and destruction to the intimate theatre space; the full gamut of emotions. It was truly "carnage," in all the best ways. This play, the actors, and surely the director, were the pinnacle of excellence. We look forward to many more shows at the Purple Rose. Cheers!

A nice theater but after what happened to my daughter whose dreams of becoming an actor were crushed by incompetent and hypocritical management there is no way I, or any of my family, will ever attend anything involvingThe Purple Rose.

We went last night to see "never not once" and understood why there was no intermission: because people will NOT come back. It was terrible play.
We love the theater and went there for the last 115 years, but this one was terrible.

We have seen many wonderful plays here, but "God of Carnage" was not one of them. In fact, it was the worst play we have ever seen anywhere. It was embarrassing for us to have invited friends to attend.

I went to the Purple Rose to see Jeff Daniels in concert in December. I'd never been there before, but....I'm sure I'll go back. It's such an intimate environment, you feel you're almost part of the performance. I've seen many performances in New York and London but....love supporting Michigan theater. I'm looking forward to going back for a play.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review and support of The Purple Rose Theatre! We are thrilled that you made it to Jeff Daniels' Onstage & Unplugged and we look forward to seeing you back in Chelsea for a play. We have a great line up for the remainder of our 25th Anniversary season and more incredible shows in store for the 2016/17 season!

Saw Superior Donuts. It was so engaging and so beautifully acted that reality was suspended for the duration of the play. I fell in love with the characters and the play was pure genius. There isn't a bad seat in the entire theater . The seating areas are on three sides. I can't say enough good things about this theater and its actors!

It was a great blend of serious and very funny! Every time it got serious, something really funny happened which had everybody laughing hard. But the funny parts did not detract from the seriousness of the topics.

Saw All My Sons by Arthur Miller. Great core of resident actors from Michigan. More or less in the round in small theatres puts you right in the action. Friendly staff and great place for young actors and theatre interns to get start with professionals. Local support, corporate support from Detroit corporations and Jeff Daniels keeps this little gem a great place to see plays.
