Good camping area
Oct 2020
My wife located this park from searching camping areas in Marquette. We did not realize that it was located 25 miles from Marquette. Once we found the place we were not disappointed. We had reserved a pull thru site , full hook-up service for our trailer. There are many places in the area to drive to, two locations that feature waterfalls and some hiking trails. Although this place is away from “civilization “ the area makes up for it. Besides, one does not go camping to go into town for restaurants and night life. There is a store within walking distance, laundromat and even a small restaurant. On Friday the restaurant offers a fish dinner special, perch, cod and whitefish. Serving size was more than enough. The campsites are well spaced and park staff friendly and helpful. I would camp at this place again

Nice location mostly flat for small rvs

We have a 45 ft MH. A large RV doesn't fit this place, with exception of #19. When we leave we will go the wrong way to get out of the park. The setup for this site should be on the other side to go the right way on the street. But its clean and its neat. And right on the water

Just a family style park where you can get to know many friends. Only 25 miles North of Marquette which is now one of the top cities in the United States to live in.

Nice place to picnic
Jul 2017 • Couples
We had a lovely picnic dinner on a table overlooking the lake. The guard at the gate-booth even suggested the "best table" in the park, and she was right. We were atop a little hill, with a great view, yet sheltered from the other people in the park. There is also camping and boating yet it did not seem overcrowded like many other parks.

Beautiful Campsite
Aug 2017 • Couples
We stayed at Perkins Park in August of 2017 and we loved our campsite! We were #62 it the view was amazing. We had a beautiful view of the lake. The plot sizes for these campsites were good size - great for larger groups. Only about 20-30 minutes away from downtown Marquette. They had nice facilities as far as we saw. Everyone was very friendly. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, relaxing camping trip to the U.P.

This facility has just about everything! Beach, fishing pier, fish cleaning shack, boat launch, pavilion, playground, volleyball and many campsites. Make reservations if you plan to camp in the summer...this place gets busy!

A great park at the end of the road in the UP.

What a beautiful view from this park. It is well planned and well kept. Not many places where you can still camp on the water or real close to it left but this one has some like that.

Historic and Wonderful

We love this campground. Have camped here many times over the years. It is featured in the Otto Preminger movie "Anatomy of a Murder", as are the Lumberjack and Thunder Bay Inn. The campground itself is well laid out, and showers are available. The Fourth of July has always been a great tradition, but Big Bay is fun any time of the year. Would definitely recommend this park.

Awesome campground

Perkins campground is an awesome campground. Located in Big Bay, Michigan, just 22 miles north of Marquette on County Road 550. The park is located on Independence Lake, a large lake great for boating, fishing, and other water activities. The park has a large number of campsites, some of which are pull through with full hook up. There is a shower building but a six-minutes shower will cost you 25 cents. A six-minutes is long enough for a decent shower. There is a boat launch (steep approach) and a decent size fishing pier. Overall this a real hidden campground treat and I recommend a visit to this campground for a visit. Big Bay is a very small community. You may want to make sure your gas tank is filled before leaving Marquette. There are a couple mom and pop cafes and a general store in Big Bay. So plan according. But do plan a visit here.
