Played Manistee national for second time and after crossing bogs, swamps and other nasty tricky terrain I wanted to try either Crystal lake, Pinecroft or Champion Hill. Stopped by Chestnut hills and Bear Lake little river golf park and neither excited us so we went to the “ mountain links” of Champions hill. Seems every body is charging $50-$70 and that is more than the wife and and want to pay but we stepped to the plate. ( 2 rounds, lodging $139 pp group golfer at Manistee national) We are used to great value using golfnow/passand TeeOff.
Champion hill was a super scenic and very hilly and fun to play. Managed 2 over 38 on front which I was flabbergasted considering I didn’t know the course. 44 on back. Lots of sand rocky traps and not a flat hole on thy course.
Only real negative is I was expecting better fairways and tee boxes. Actually below average shape for what they charge, no bent grass only greens which were good.
We had a great time on a gorgeous day and recommend it but I think we have many more courses to check out

A few years ago my old Air Force buddy and I starting going to Frankfort Michigan to fish for salmon with a friend of his. We are both avid golfers and discovered there are some great golf courses around Frankfort. This year we discovered Pinecroft Golf in Beulah, MI which is about 8 miles from Frankfort. The course was designed by the owner who did a great job of using the local topography to develop a challenging and enjoyable course. A few things: the course is a bit hilly with relatively narrow fairways and quite a few trees. It is rural so there were plenty of birds and other animals to see while playing. We encountered a group of 8 wild turkeys who clearly were not intimidated by a golf ball or golf players. Not sure what the grass was on the greens but it was relatively slow. The fairways appeared to be bluegrass or fescue. It was a challenging course that favors the accurate golfer over the long golfer. We liked it so much we played it twice in the week we were in Michigan. Rates were very reasonable and the staff quite friendly.

An excellent golf course that is off the beaten path. Awesome views of Crystal Lake. Course is very well maintained and friendly staff.

Fun layout with challenging greens although they were way too long. The greens need to be cut faster as they are painfully slow. Always a must play when in the area but Crystal Lake Golf Club greens are superior.

Evening round of golf here is the bomb! Well maintained and affordable. Close to my house and we’ll layer out.

Early season 2018 conditions were good. Fun course with some elevation change, good greens and some nice views. Cheap replay rates and a second course located close by. Very peaceful and friendly staff.

We really enjoyed our two outings on this course. The course is hilly and wooded but not too challenging for average golfers. The greens were in perfect shape but tricky. The views were spectacular looking out at Crystal Lake, especially from the elevated 16th hole. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

While staying with friends in a rental home near Crystal Lake, I found Pinecroft and its sister course Champion Hills. First the staff at both courses couldn't have been nicer or friendlier. I was treated as if I was a member. Bob is a very nice guy and fun to talk with.
Pinecroft is carved into about 125 acres and you will enjoy excellent scenery. It is very tight on some holes and there are a few elevation changes, both off the tee and to the green. For mid-October I thought the greens were in excellent. The views along 16 - 18 of Crystal Lake are beautiful.

Took our son-in-law & daughter to Pinecroft Golf Course, while they were up here over Labor Day week-end. Both agreed it was a challenging course & loved it for that. A couple of beautiful sweeping views of Crystal Lake. Very rural and lots of pines, a few critters ( turkeys etc) If you love a challenge, long twisted fairways & some great laughs this is a place for you. They have a small office with sandwiches & cold drinks but no beer. Your more than welcome to bring your own onto the course. ( cheaper :D ) We did 18 holes and took us about 4 hours.

This was our second year playing golf at Pinecroft. We always play at twilight (reasonable rates). The course is narrow and challenging. The staff is quite friendly and really do their best to make the experience enjoyable.
