This was my 3rd visit. My husband had never visited before and he loves American history. He was in awe!

Somewhat difficult to locate on the campus (maybe because its summer)..The Chapin Library was certainly worth the visit....lots of first editions, manuscripts, etc,...However, young lady at the desk was somewhat clueless about the pace!

I made arrangements with Chapin librarian, Wayne Hammond to view select works from celebrated children's book illustrators, Garth Williams and Pauline Baynes. He and his staff could not have been more accommodating as my husband and I viewed original art and editorial correspondence. It was a wonderful behind-the-scenes look into the world of mid-century picture book production.

this collection of rare documents (and books) blows the mind of first time viewers. the documents range from a copy of the declaration of independence (marked up by George mason) to the British response to that document. and everybody should have a chance to read teddy Roosevelt's typed letter instructing his campaign to return $100,000 donated by standard oil.

The Chapin Library, which is the rare book and manuscript collection of Williams College, is located in the magnificent new Sawyer Library. No other liberal arts college in the United States has a rare book collection that compares to this one. Fortunately, the Chapin's curators mount significant exhibitions of their treasures, and these exhibitions are open to the public. The... More

They have printed copies of the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, Bill of Rights and Articles of Confederation, some with comments written on them by participants. There are no crowds, you can take your... More
